I’m saying what you said was right
People need to stop being jerks and you were one of the few actually being respectful or at least not an ill-informed idiot

Apparently I am extremely late to the party... so late that I somehow skated right past all the drama that apparently happened and am completely unaffected by everything. Guess that's what happens when you have to get off for a few days. Thank you life.

That being said... I have read all 14 pages, and I will be honest, but I am rather appalled by the backlash that had been handed out to these, in my opinion, rather trivial changes that will basically not even effect how I use the forums on a day to day basis. Every change that has been made is for nothing but benefits to the community. The devs are here to help us all... not to "ruin everything". They created this place and I know for a fact that it pains them to see things like this happen. To have all of your hard work go unappreciated and to be seen as the enemy when everything they are doing is nothing but improvements.

Now in the later pages, things calmed down a bit, but even the post just before I decided to type this (several posts have been made since I started typing this I am sure) was still arguing one of the points that was made very clear why it was removed on the very first post. I see nothing but improvements from all these changes, and quite honestly, am almost entirely unaffected by almost all of it.

Then someone brought up the whole Jeepster incident... and honestly, while a lot of people got extremely mad at what he did... it was needed. I never saw any wrong in it, and now, the RoR forums are calm and peaceful. Half because many of the users were banned and half because the website was moved and started from scratch, but that is neither here nor there.

Honestly, the ban hammer might need to be dropped on these forums, but if that were to happen, there might be some backlash. It has happened before and I am sure that no one that remembers it wants to see it happen again. The devs are trying to make this a nicer place for everyone, I just don't understand why is seems to be so difficult for the majority of people to see that.

    TL;DR
Give the devs some respect. Not only are they making a crazy accurate physics simulator that interests all of us (I think it is fair to make that assumption... I mean... you are here after all) but they also have to keep these forums in check. Heck, poor Tdev basically waisted his vacation doing most of this. Honestly, with the way things have been going, I feel like they would agree that it's easier for them to work on the game than it is to moderate these forums. I mean... several moderators rage quitting? Really? What happened to this place (hypothetical question, don't answer that, I don't even want to know)

I completely understand this is a tough situation for the devs. I really don't want this forum to turn into a toxic community... We've lost many forum members because of how people act on the forum. I just hope you guys can find a compromise that most people will like, but you can't please everyone in the world. You guys are doing a great job currently and I can't wait to see what the future holds for BeamNG.drive and the BeamNG Forums.

Just remember, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel :)

I could not have said it better myself, and I think the devs just doing the best they can, and as long as we can read and post on the forums and upload and download mods, I`m more then happy :)

While I strongly agree that a dedicated introductions thread would be phenomenal, in practice, it hasn’t worked. Moments after creating the introduction thread I made a few weeks ago, people began giving inappropriate, spammy, introductions, and the entire thread was derailed within a matter of minutes. I’m sure several users came to the thread planning to submit a legitimate introduction, but saw the other introductions, and “hopped on the bandwagon.”

Mindset is an important thing here, and I think too many people are seeing the behavior of a few users, and mimicking it, because so many others are doing the same. This has gotten out of control, we can’t let the actions of a few influence us all. If we all seek to improve our own behavior, the quality of the community will vastly improve.

Every little thing you do makes a difference, make sure the difference you’re making is a positive one.

As for user moderators, I really don’t think that would be a good idea. One user shouldn’t have more power than another. There shouldn’t be anything that makes another user appear inherently better than another. We are all equal, and it should stay that way.

Tdev mentioned the possibility of a “secret team” to help the moderators. I’m not entirely sure what this entails, but I believe it’s something akin to a small group that assists the moderators, but has no real power themselves. On the surface, this seems like a good idea, but you have to be careful. Like I said, one user shouldn’t be any more powerful than another, and although the position may not hold any real power, the idea of power still exists. The “secret” part also worries me. Let’s say User 1 and User 2 are both part of this team. Then, one day, they get into a fight. User 1 then gives out the information that User 2 is on this team, and gives the names of several other users on this team. Anything involving a secret is by design, very fragile.

One way I’d suggest countering this, is the members of the team are never made aware of other members of this team. Let’s say User 1 & 2 are both part of this team again. They both received PMs with details of their task, but are never told the other members of the team. Now, if both the users get into a fight again, as far as they know, the other is not part of the team.

Still, I’m hesitant about the whole “community moderator” thing in general. Even if it’s just symbolic, any gap in power can quickly turn into a huge problem. However, I do agree that more moderation power is needed.

I encourage all of you to “self moderate.” Look at your post before pressing submit, and think; Would a moderator approve of this post? If you have any doubt, don’t submit the post. I think a lot of people aren’t thinking before they post right now.

Much to my dismay when I notice a spelling mistake two hours after I submit a post, you can’t take back what you’ve said. Sure, you can edit your post, but that doesn’t change what people have seen, quoted, and replied to. Save yourself the regret, self moderate, and follow the posting guidelines.

Now, I’ve said it before, but some of you really need to change your attitudes towards the devs. I don’t think you understand how much blood, sweat, and tears have gone into this game, these forums, this community. Tdev spent all day yesterday, a holiday, working on these forums, and what did we do? We criticized every change, got into arguments, and treated the devs with a ridiculous amount of disrespect. Even if you don’t agree with the changes, even if you’re upset by them, at least show some respect to the devs for trying! They’re doing everything they can to help these forums, and we all need to appreciate that!

So thank you devs, thank you for all your hard work, Monday through Friday, the weekends, holidays. Thank you for all your hard work constantly striving to make the game and it’s fourms better and better. Thank you for your resilience in putting up with all the disrespect the world ungratefully spews at you, and still maintaining a postive attitude and continuing to make it better for the rest of us. Thank you for all that you’ve done, all you’re doing now, and all you will continue to do.

Thank you devs, none of this would exist without you.

What? No. Automatic swearing censor filters are bad. They don't always work that well. It was tried on this forum for an day or two and a lot of people disliked it. Swearing is all right in general and it can be used for comedic purposes as well. Swearing that is bad is swearing that is overemphasized and unnecessarily overused in an post. (the type of swearing that the staff focuses on removing).

    @tdev
Thank you for taking the time out of game development to help tidy up what a mess this forum has became. All the toxic areas of the forum I can't wait to see improve. Just lately people seem to be getting rude and finding some way or form to harass others, wether its the way they type and ETC. People need to remember this is a forum is built for the game. Not for us to be rude and toxic. If people want to be toxic they should take it else where. This forum should be pointed to a more friendly community, than others who are bashing on this person or that person. Like the whole Ivan Situation. People assume things too much. Sometimes its correct, sometimes its not. The Witch hunting should really stop on this forums,

Thank You @tdev and the rest of the team

Guild Wars 2 forums have a super-cute censor filter that replaces most swear words with "kitten"... ;)

    What the kitten...?! :D

Everyone has been losing there shit over the group thing, even though they own a group that is posted on like once a fucking month.

The group system was a failed attempt at creating BeamNG-related social environments, as I saw it. And it failed, for the most part, imo.

There is no reason for it to be off by default imo.

Most but not all, true. But if you pick and choose which groups to delete then you will have people who bitch about their sad, failed group being deleted and a successful modder's group staying around.

For once, I can agree that every time you post something that there is an unnerving amount of replies containing hate and ranting, and treating other people of your moderation team like shit.

And I understand I've contributed to that hate a bit, but I've made changes to how I speak to people now...

...all in all, stop treating the people protecting you like shit, cough Kaiser cough.

The reason that there is hate and ranting is because that they are the centre of the community and as such will have both enemies and admirers, deserved or not. I personally will try my best to respect the devs, but there will always be trolls and such who take issue with everything the devs do.

So, I've been reading this thread for 15 minutes now and I came to the end of this page so here are my thoughts and suggestions for this forum @tdev :
    • Make the "normal rating set" (both positive and negative) come back and add the count of these ratings only on the post who got the rating(s) and not on the profile of the person nor any leaderboard
    • Make a new thanks rating wich has to be validated by a "thanks validator moderator" who only has the power of validating thanks ratings and cannot validate its own "thanks" and has to pass some test to get accepted as a "thanks validator moderator"
    • These "thanks" ratings should be displayed below our profile pic and serve only as a reference of wether a person is usefull to the forum or not
    • Restart the forums from scratch to the point where everybody has to create a new account with steam or humble bundle so you can be sure he has the game.
    • Leave the old foums as they are excepted nobody can post something anywhere. Like some kind of read-only-forum
    • Maybe change the sub categories of the forum because they actually seem a bit sketchy to me
So there you are, thanks for reading if you did and have a nice day !
