As the title says really, will the xbox one controller (plugged in via the usb play and charge cable (I seem to remember hearing that the play and charge lead carries the info when plugged in)) work on beamNG, without having to fiddle around with button mapping and the suchlike? (on the demo, that is)

Thanks for any help in advance
    John

you heard wrong unfortunately. The play and charge lead does not carry data. The same applies to the xbox 360 play and charge lead.

It is confirmed to be getting PC support eventually but will need a custom input map on BeamNG to support it.

It should, when Microsoft releases the drivers. They haven't yet though, as far as I'm aware.

The play and charge cable doesn't send data, but a standard micro usb will work one the drivers are released.

Cant wait for this!! And from what I understand, the developers of the new controller increased the thubstick deazone. My 360 controller was actually worse than keyboard, since when I would drive in a straight line, (also in LFS), the car would constantly veer and need adjustments. So needless to say, it made playing DRIVE practically impossible. The only thing that was better than keyboard was linear throttle input. And I could never get the deadzone right, whether through Pinnacle Gamer Profile, or settings, or anything. Much annoying.

By default the 360 controller has a 15% deadzone enforced through the controller firmware (not the driver believe it or not). However one of my 2 controllers I have found can be upto 20% out without me pressing the stick.
You can alter the BeamNG inputmap or lua files (sorry can't remember which, hoping its just inputmap) to widen its deadzone.
I have heard of upto 30% being needed by some peoples controllers. Fucking joke, and for once I think the language is justified.

The XBox one controller also has a 15% deadzone apparently although having handled the xbox one controller the thumbsticks feel a little firmer, so I think although the firmware deadzone remains the same the actual hardware has been tightened up a bit so the sticks should definitely rest within that zone.

Besides deadzone issues I do like the 360 controller and dislike the xbox one controller.

That's funny, because I find the One controller much tighter and better for driving (having been plowing through Forza 5 for weeks now) there seems to be a very nice deadzone. The 360 controller was unusable on PC, it feels like a nice evolution from 360 to One IMO

Oh don't get me wrong, the one controller is decent. I just prefer the physical design of the 360 controller, throw the one innards in the 360 shell and you would have the perfect controller.

Anything's better than a DualShock. Symmetical analogue placement is nowhere near as comfy as asymmetrical.

Agreed, I always played ps1 and ps2 until I got my first 360 after 2 years of PS2 and I have to say, I remember picking up the new 360 controller versus my PS2 controller and immediately being a pro at aiming/steering and looking around. Its much more eergonomic and intuitive.

Way off topic, I just read through that old post of that dumb kid claiming his parents sold their house for $5mil and bought a 16.4 Veyron. OMG was that a laugh? He even posted a stock google picture of a Veyron and MS painted a white square on the front of it and wrote his username in MS paint script lmao that was hilarious. Gabester closed the thread because it became ridiculously stupid. That made me laugh at work out loud lolol

Hehe, I have a dualshock (yeah, just dualshock not dualshock 2, 3 or 4) sitting right here on my bed next to me.
Actually I entirely agree that it sucks in comparison to the xbox controller, its just £25 or so buying a USB host shield for an arduino vs £3 for a PS1 controller I can cut the cable off of so I can have a controller on my robots, I think dualshock wins :p

But thats my obscure usage and reasoning for having a dualshock controller still :p

I just wish Sony used this with rumble motors instead of the Dualshock.

    (imported from here)

It took them 16 years to re-realise that concave analogs offer more grip.

Is it me or are those handles a bit longer too? That was one of the things I disliked on the playstation controllers, they were wide and well spread out but not very long, I dont have big hands at all yet the controller feels small. And of course the thumbsticks should ideally be asymmetrical, but that originates from them more or less being a bolt on to a controller that previously didnt have them at all.

No idea. My hands sometimes feel slightly too large even for the Xbox controllers, so you can imagine that trying to play Gran Turismo 6 is hell for me.

pretty sure, correct me if i'm wrong, you can run your pc THROUGH your xbox one. which will allow you to use the xbox one controller. granted you'll have to buy an xbox one first if you don't already have one. thats a lot of money to avoid mouse and keyboard.

The Xbox one has HDMI input so the PC could display via the Xbox one, but this is display only, its for TV's that only have 1 HDMI input so even with xbox connected you can have something else connected too. You cannot use this for control, you would still need to use devices connected to the PC to control the PC.

    SUPER bump
I searched, and actually I commented several times in this post back in the day.

I managed to get Windows 8 to recognize my inputs on my (dog chewed up) Xbox One Controller, (X,Y,Z and all 13 buttons etc).

I suppose now is a good time for someone to make (I don't even know where to begin) an Input Map? Ill explain how I did it :) need moar contrul

    - - - Updated - - -

Does no one have a One controller/no one care? I feel like this should be addressed. I messed with Inputmaps last night, cant seem to figure it out...my computer recognizes the controller (with the calibrate tool, i see all buttons work as well as axis/triggers/thumbsticks) just no recognition in Beamng. what is the standard operating procedure on making an input map? I saw the map for the 360 controller, i changed the name and GUID number etc, and nothing happened (figured it couldnt be that easy). Any help will be really appreciated :)

I messed around with trying to get the one controller to work for a little bit, but I couldn't get beamng to recognize it. I think we just need to wait until official drivers are released by Microsoft.
