I think you mean Trabants, they had v2 2 stroke engines and were famous for Western Germans since they had the distinct 2 stroke smell(especially when like Western Germans visited Eastern Germany or lived near Eastern Germany. These do have a V type engine, but its aircooled V4 whit low compression so they can run on the lowest quality fuel possible! --- Post updated --- Also there was a sort of a small break for me working on this mod, due to depression(and other issues similar to that) i have had for half of my life(10 years), i have gotten now on right type of meds(and been on them for a month) and my life situation has improved(my depression is now 10% of what it was, i have now way less anxiety and i finally feel inner peace), so the work on the mod is accelerated for now! Also, i have finally figured out the nighmare the zaz968 fender panels are and i am now almost completed the frame/body system keeping them in place!
basically both i and the russian use same model as base of our projects, but the difference between what i do and what he did whit the model are quite major For example all he basically did was change the interior panel and door panel textures(to a bit realistic ones) and recolor the window up down crank wheel in chrome color) and he didnt do even a single bit of editing of the meshes, while what i am doing whit the same model he had is multiple things, eg researching the body and body frame, creating missing body frame(based on pictures of the actual car behind fender bodywork) that the actual car had, creating a small suprise, researching how the car mechanically worked and where its components were(eg my research points that fuel tank was under the rear seat), moddeling how the fender panels connected to the car(the maze like system that held them in place), creating new interior textures(for buttons, the dashboard indicators and speedometer) creating new taillights and taillight textures(based on images my sources got for me), and possibly a custom jbeam(not a 100% ripped standard covet one....)
Tough i do later plan to create a new model for my mod(so it would look more realistic and decent quality, but due to time constraints i cant do it right now... Right now i am working on A pillar and front window, when its done i need to do a few other additions(new tail lights and fix a editing mistake(fixed a hole in rear bumper...) i did when i started the project) and the car would be probably ready for jbeaming!
So its been a while while i did actual update whit pics.. Lets start: I fixed a crack in fender, caused my the puzzle system that holds the fender in place, I think its now as close to real life car as possible(as in as my skill and knowledge allows) The pre picture is labelled fendercrack.png I improved fenders some time ago(and fixed a editing mistake when i separated some body panels.... On upper fender you can see sort of a rectancle thingy attatched to it, while in the updated version the rectancle thingy is part of the chassis! Filename is ImprovedFendersoothnes.png None of these pics show the improved version, both are from today when i cleaned my project up(deleted meshes that i had copied as backup) After writing this post, i booted up blender and i created the pic of the post fender fix! The file is called something fendercrackfix.png And yeah, it looks odd, but in real car its like part of a groove that holds the fender panel to the chassis.
Looks amazing! Please don't let this one go to rot after the model is finished.BeamNG needs a good Russian car,not some Russian guy making crap.I LOVE Russian cars,It's a weird passion that i have.I think a ZAZ done properly would be AMAZING in BeamNG! Please don't forget to update it regularly once it's finished. Also what year? There is a 966 from 1968,could that be a later mod?Anyways keep up the good work!Eager to see the 2 part fender when it's done!
"BeamNG needs a good Russian car,not some Russian guy making crap", sorry mate but don't you know there is no difference between a Russian guy/girl mod and a Eastern European guy/girl mod? No but seriously, i try to give my best(instead of importing whole model whitout separating any of the body parts(fenders, windows) and slapping unmodified covet jbeam onto it.... Ill slap T series jbeam onto it instead! ) I have ton of plans and it feels like i need another cocreator to keep the modpack(yes, a possible modpack in the future including ton of cars(roughly based on zaz 96x)) updated.... For now its just 968m(but i keep unmodified files around so i can convert my mod(relativley easily) to 968a! For example i have done ton of info scrounging on weird russian sites(i dont even remember domains of the sites but i have them bookmarked, the one i only remember is drive2.ru that i found during my research and i got a ukrainian car dealing site(similar to auto24 and autotrader) whit ton of zaz968 on sale, whit different types of DIY/aftermarket mods and homemade bodykits! I found ton of different "prototype" models, no idea how legit they were, one was zaz968m whit different(ovalish triangle) taillights, some sort of mustang/early corvette looking zaz 968, some kind of weird zaz and izh based wagon(called пуц(curse word...) or луц, something like that).... Basically ton of things i cant even think/trust they were actual prototypes(aside the ovalish triangle tailights since the photo of it was in black and white in a normal street....) Also ton of truck based things similar to zaz96x..... Well, its time for another image dump(that consists also of some weirdest aftermarket mods i have seen...)!!!! Oh, and apparantly torpeedo is a nickname for car cockpit in Russian... I were puzzled for a minute... --- Post updated --- There is way more pictures of weird zaz968 cars but most of them are in webp format....
I would like to but i dont know if i live so long to be able to afford one..... And whoever is the original author i based my model on is politely said a idiot... Little edit to disclaim what i mean: I have a condition which makes it hard for me to live, unless i get cure(s)(mostly medicine) for it, but due to a liver problem(not having healthy liver(its improved in last 4 months but i took accidentaly 2x my medicine(one of the pills i have to take rest of my life) it hurt my kidneys and my liver(probably)) i may have to come off of them, and that would be really bad for my mental(and physical) health... And why did i call the original model author idiot? Well, s/he did really good job whit rest of the car, but when it came to the roof s/he tought something like: "Phew, not my problem, ill hide every pillar and separate part of pillar up here!" So now i have to literally remodel the pillar connections to the roof, and since they are part of the body i cant use modifiers(stuff that do half of the work for me) in moddeling that area in blender...
OPA! THIS IS CHEEKI BREEKI. just make sure that the engine overheats and seizes when the car is stopped in traffic, like the real thing. Oh and make sure the passenger seat can come out for ice hole fishing! I love this!
I have a new deadline of somewhere in may 2018, so depending if you count may as start of 2018, then yes! Also the project isnt dead(yet), i am at school setting myself ready to show it to a school staff member who deals whit final projects! Since i am on deadline the mod won be ready(as in it will be more or less untextured, atleast when it comes to interior since i have a problem whit using multiple uv maps for interior....) in may 2018, but since that is a deadline i plan to do a really basic import(only finished(for now/then) mesh and jbeam, no interior detailing aside what i already have) basically what i need for defending the final project and i plan on releasing it as a WIP file, and it will be avaible in this thread if beamng staff members dont find problems whit my project files!
It is either home made(homemade cars and tools were not that rare in soviet times! My grandpa built a tractor(for potato field plowing) using a car or motorbike engine! Sadly no pictures of it since granny got it scrapped.... Basically it was like a wheelbarrow whit a engine!) or some kind of test prototype! According to legend/theory/history it was supposed to be like a Eastern European Porsche(it was supposed to be called Zaporoshets sport 900) but the zaporoshets didn´t got permission from Ukranian SSR/Moscow to mass produce them so only 6(according to the legend, history or however you call it) were produced! It was not uncommon for CCCP carmakers(and musicans in that case) to copy US/Western European car designs and create their own cars on the basis of these designs. I heard a theory from my old Internship teacher that GAZ-M20 Pobeda was based on a American car for example! But sadly i have forgotten what the american version of the car was called... For example early Lada's were licensed from FIAT, Moskvich 400 was based on early Opel Kadett!
It's not really copying, but rather making the cars look like other cars from the era. All dimensions are different. The Moskvich 400 was an Opel Kadett taken as compensation for losses in WW2. Lada was just "based" on the Fiat 124. The russians changed nearly everything: -engine: russian-designed OHC vs Fiat's OHV -suspension: strengthened -chassis: thicker steel -brakes: dual-circuit brake system vs Fiat's single circuit. Yes, they did change the rear discs to drums, but 60s discs weren't worth it on a mass-produced family car. -all locks and locking mechanizms changed. -even more changes (Total: 800 differences)
So small update, i am pulling the project together for now, that means that i am doing final modeling for now and i try to get a really early alpha version out(that i can demonstrate/defend as my final project) and i am starting on fixing dashboard info cauges and other small problems the project has. I wont have time/skill to fully texture the car tough... like i legit have problem using like 2 uvmaps on the chassis since chassis takes one uv map and buttons/dashboard interior stuff like clock take another, and basically some kind of conflict happens that buttons dont have visible texture due to 2 uv maps... When i am done whit moddeling i will probably try to find someone(unless they find me, which is what i hope!) that can help me fix the uv maps(blender) issue! When i am done whit moddeling(few days to a week) i really really could use some jbeam help! When it comes to what i have done in mean time, i fixed rear bench/seat that game whit the model, splitted bottom section of seat/bench(how it looks on real car from pictures i have seen) and basically welded the bottom seat bit into the chassis of the car whit a modifier, so in theory now the model has rippable/working rear bench!) i also modelled a gas tank(not accurate by any means, but generally righetish shape(but whit out the grooves the real fuel tank has) and due to time constraints i had to create a not real car like attatchment system(rectancle between gas tank and chassis) that holds the gas tank in place since i didnt/dont have time to model ropes and bolts the real car uses to keep its fuel tank in place... I also spent time fixing some free verticles the model had in the chassis and right now i am working on rear tail lights to make them deform groups compactible! Also working on how to attatch the new tail lights(that are in shape modeled after pictures, not weird assymetrical mess the original tail lights were) to the car in realistic way, unlike welded to body tail lights the original model had)!
