I play Beam NG on a gamepad, and recently, I've been wanting to get into recording clips using the replay system, however I have a hangup on the controls. The right stick works great for pitching and turning the camera--it has it's own control axis (rotate camera horizontally assigned to Z axis and vertical assigned to RZ Axis)

here's where the hangup comes in. I want to assign movement of the free camera to the left stick, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. I want to be able to do this to achieve smooth strafing and angles that you simply can not get without using a stick to control gain. Without that, it's like trying to turn the wheels with left and right arrow keys--it works, but not well.

Does anyone have any idea if this is possible?

You can completely customize your bindings by going in the Controls menu.
The camera bindings are in under the 'camera' section.
Note that the left-thumbstick is for steering normally, so you will end up with conflicts.

Yeah, I knew it would come with conflicts, though I only ever plan on using it to control the camera strafe in replay mode, and I have no reason to use free camera while driving, so I think they can exist alongside one another. The issue I'm having is I can't seem to get the left thumbstick to actually do anything. The controls for the camera strafe and forward and back movement are assigned to four different keybinds, when the stick only has two axis.' I'm a litle confused as to how I would continue.

Yeah, those were not meant for that usage.
    But you can try this:

Add 0.5 deadzone to each, so that you 'split' the thumstick into two different things.

Oh wow. I didn't think of that. Thank you so much.
