    Land of the Dead Reckon

    Map Info:

Made by Dead Reckon, with in game assets made by the BeamNG team. This map is not exactly intended to have realistic geological features, just ones that are fun to drive in, on, and around. As well as crash into, onto, and around. It is intended to be a mostly barren, desolate map. I figured after a few weekends of work, it was finally ready for a beta release, I have corrected my mistakes made with my first, and still incomplete map while making this one.

    Features:
Dirt roads, good for rallying, but keep in mind not all dirt roads are for rallying, some may lead you to an off road course you cannot escape.
Paved roads, some loop in a circuit
Incomplete off road course, with a mud track that will be (if I can ever figure out how) similar to that of the map Insane Testing.
Short rock crawling course, plan to add another longer one
Two bridges, canyon roads, desolate highways
Some damaged roads, more to come, pot holes are fun. :D
Small lake, and a couple of not very dense forests.
Mountains, including a curvy mountain road
Banked curves in some areas, more to come, they aren't easy to make.

    Beta Version 1 Release Notes:

Some roads not smoothed, or not smoothed enough
Some roads not yet leveled, may have strange banking
Some intended banking may need to be corrected
    Car eating bridges
Lots of detail work to do

If you have any questions, comments, suggestion, things I can use on the map, etc, please feel free to post them. If you find anything strange, like any of the trees, buildings, or other props floating, rocks positioned with untextured sides visible, etc, post a screenshot and show me, I'll fix it.

Sorry, been having a bit of trouble with my ISP, I got the map uploaded, now I'll try the screenshots. 90KB/s up is not enough for a hasty upload of a 187MB map.

Ok, well it sounds good from what you've written. Gosh, I'm not sure I could live with 90KB/s up! Are you connected via ethernet?

Yep, Verizon DSL, Damn Slow Link, I'm staying with relatives at the moment, can't convince my brother to upgrade to Comcast cable even though I said I'd foot the bill. And just when I thought I had a handle on what consumerism is.

Anyway, screens are up, check it out, download if you like the look, keep in mind the map is only about 40% done though.

I'm not exactly sure what it is, but I really like the way this map is looking. :D keep up the good work. I'll be looking forward to a beta ;)

Well, I had the map uploaded, but, it vanished.

Probably clicked something by accident while uploading the screenshots, I am now re-re-uploading the Beta. Third time is the charm?

The point of the map is just to have a fun driving experience, the roads are challenging, and a little buggy at this point in time. Challenging enough I still managed to wrap my car around a tree despite the rarity of trees on this map. :D

If you want to make the roads smoother in tricky areas, use the flatten tool first in a slightly smaller size than the actual road, then use the smooth tool in a larger size than the road to smooth out the edges.
Works like a Charm, but I guess you already know that :)

Nice map, I look forward to see the updated versions!

Yeah, that works, if you want to preserve the angle of the road however, you usually have to use the smooth slope tool and the terrain heighten or lowering tools to get the road at an angle near desirable levels. It's quite tricky, time consuming, and frustrating, but it is doable.

I'm gonna be working on the map this weekend, changing a few things, spawn area is going to get some changes, I don't like the position of the spawn road when it meets the mountain highway. Also going to be adding detail objects, and doing some other touch up work.

Side note, I need more bridge models, the only one in the game has those annoying support columns not suitable for roads to drive below in most cases. Actually, I need a lot of models for this map, including weathered road signs. However, for now I'm just working on finishing the basic layout, I work in small area's, 'bout 1/8th the size of the map at a time, make sure that is finished, and do small changes as the map progresses. I never really use a plan, I just let it play out as it happens, I believe it makes the map more interesting in this case.

I tried the map and personally I like it pretty much. It is even driftable ! Would just need some more smoothness on the main road as already mentioned but other than that it's good. Thanks.

I've been doing some work on it in passing, no more than a couple hours at a time, trying to sort out the roads that exist, and figuring out how they will lead into new terrain. Expect an update with some slightly better roads, it takes time to make them right. Bear in mind that the bumpy side roads will still exist as they are mostly, although some have moved, and some have vanished entirely.
