Rodius, it can actually do stuff. Stock comes with a 140A akternator and 4 cigarette outputs, practically an RV tbh
Prius. I actually have a few ways to improve it: 1. Hybrid turbo using an aftermarket turbo, a generator, and a treadmill motor. You hook the exhaust turbine up to the generator and feed energy into the battery, and then siphon off electricity to power the motor and drive the turbocharger. This system allows for the power and efficiency of a turbo, without turbo lag. 2. Wheel skirts. These improve the aerodynamic profile and I like how they look. 3. Aftermarket wheels. Obviously. 4. STR1P3Z 4 XTRA SP33D 5. Okay, maybe not that last one.
I'd pick a rodius, as I don't mind driving an ugly car and Old Sang Yongs were actually well equipped and really good for what they were built for. Prius is just another eco shitbox which which isn't even that eco as it burns way more gas than let's say a 2 liter renault megane, as with all of the extra weight and tiny engine you would have to floor the prius all the time. I also like beeing different.
I mean when you push the prius to its limits and folow it with any 2 liter Megane, the prius is going to burn more fuel. The one which could do simmilary or worse than the prius could be the 1st gen megane wagon with 8valve engine, any other 2 liter will be most likely more fuel efficient when driving normally (not some weird eco shit)
But I'm not going to be pushing a Prius to its goddamn limits, I'm going to be driving it on a normal road. And according to Fuelly, a website where car owners can post their fuel consumption, the Prius is between 42.6 MPG ('02) and 52.6 MPG ('12), while the Megane's 2.0-engined US platform mate, the '07-'13 Nissan Sentra, is between 25.6 and 27.1 MPG. The Sentra's Prius contemporaries are between 43.7 and 46.4.
But then, while driving like a normal driver you are still going to be driving around some twisty mountain roads at speeds over 90KMPH (at least everyone in Poland does that) and it conditions like this, hybrids are useless, as all the electric stuff does is slow you down. Renault Megane is Lighter than a prius and with more torque in conditions like that: 1. It is going to handle better. 2. It is safer. 3. It is more fuel efficient. You have to remember, that the less power the car has, the more you have to push it. That's why it is always good to have some extra juice in your car, so you don't have to push it that hard.
Barely anybody in Poland lives near mountains. And last time my family was there, only maniacs drove 90 on the curves. If you're wondering whether to get a Megane or a Prius, and your main axiom is good handling, look somewhere else. Safety? Both are 5* cars, and with most collisions being car to car, the Prius has a weight advantage. And cut that fuel efficient BS. Clarkson is no more of a reliable source than I am a space marine, and even his tone in Top Gear's "consumer advice" acknowledges that. He's an entertainer, not a car reviewer.
I thought this was about Ssangyoung and Prius? Might rather drive Prius at slow sensible pace on twisty road than Ssangyong. Prius had quite poor underside aero, in first gen, not sure if they have improved that.
Not only Clarkson proved that prius is crap. It does well in the cities, and cities only. On a highway or some backroads it loses to standard cars due to the electric engines working only up to 60kph if I recall correctly). And everyone from flat parts of the europe calls us maniacs just because you can't really take corners I mean last time I went with my dad to Tatry Mountains on the slovakian side, the 75hp 1.4Liter Megane was good for driving at speed around 90-120kmph. Even the speed limit on most of the roads is at 70kmph, so the trucks would have a chance. And what I mean by safer is that the Megane or any other Light car with good suspension and good tires is going to be easy to handle on the corners and with right amount of power it isn't going to be overtaken by a bus when it comes to some hills. Prius is all about low rolling resistance and city MPGs, but in the real world it handles bad, it is heavy and it burns a lot of fuel at high speeds. --- Post updated --- But with Ssangyong, you can go to more places that with the prius, I don't know about rodius, but Rexton was a great offroader. I belive that there was a 4wd rodius, which means that there is another reason for it to be better than a prius.
First, Clarkson can "prove" something as much as I can do taekwondo (hint: never taken any course in it). We don't call you maniacs because you can drive fast, we call you maniacs because you lack self-preservation. The Prius is on par on highways and better in the city. If you draw once and win once, what do you have in the average? The "My car is safer because it handles well" thing is BS, because in risky situations, it doesn't matter what car you have, it matters how you drive, at least with cars as similar as the Prius and Megane. Avoidance is in the driver, not the car, so let's concentrate on the passive side of safety. Also, since when is 5.7 l/100 km "a lot of fuel"? Because that's what Auto Świat's test Prius did on the highway. --- Post updated --- He started a Prius vs Megane argument based on BS, and I'm BS' enemy #1.
I would drive sensible slow pace, so Prius would get good fuel economy as it was slowing and accelerating at 60kph or less speed, while Polish truck driver would be honking and flashing lights at my tailgate, however I don't have need to speed at public roads, there are better places for that.
But with Ssangyong, you can go to more places that with the prius, I don't know about rodius, but 5.7 liter while driving with cruise controll at 120Km/h At 160km/h in normal traffic that means a lot of overtaking, braking and so on it will burn about 8-10L/100km/h. Also in the TV show "Automaniak" they've tested the Prius against an BMW M1 on a track. Prius was being pushed to the limits and the M1 was folowing it at the same speeds, and guess what! Prius did burn quite a bit more fuel than the BMW! And as it comes to city, It is way better to get something like Melex or some other electric crap, and keep a 2nd car in family as something faster with more power and only ICE, preferably a diesel, like the 2.0 DCI Laguna or some Focus. Prius isn't as good as you think. OT: Rodius is also more practical than the Prius. And it looks better (but looks are my opinion). It had better engines and if I recall correctly it had an option of 4WD. It was quite well built for its low price and it was luxurious. The Prius on the other hand... no fancy stuff to play around in the interrior, weird interrior, bad visibility, a lot of weight, no 4WD, only 5 seats and it is a Toyota.
At 160 KPH, it means you'll be able to know if that Insignia behind is a cop car. I don't know about you, but escaping from M1s is not my driving MO. Plus, many people can only have 1 car, and this is a 1-car scenario.
"better places for that" are half a country away... also this is why prius drivers are just dickheads in most cases, they slow down traffic due to their car being unable to drive at okay pace and it burns a lot of gas while accelerating. I've never actually met anyone who cares about cars one bit who would drive a prius... most of them are people who most likely don't even know that their car is FWD.
I care about cars, and I would drive the Prius as a runaround. It's the modern Mercedes 200D - not going to get anybody amazed, but will do its job reliably, using little fuel.
I mean it isn't hard to afford a 2nd car... You can just buy a cheap car like Mk1 Twingo and something more expensive like a Laguna or the Rodius as a 2nd car. And even if you have a one car, you most likely live in a big city like Kraków. So you don't need a car in the city. Also, prius is an Automatic only. And even If you are all into hybrids, then even toyota has better alternatives like the hybrid corolla or the yaris.
