Not that I like crappy Russian mods, but skiper did actually credit everyone for the lotus, and it wasn't that horrible, in fact, I thought it was pretty fun, although not very realistic.
Nadeox: Makes his own model, gets help with modifying Gabesters jbeam. High quality mod.
skiper: Uses/steals a model from another game, modify Gabesters jbeam. Decent quality mod.
    That's my take on it.

ps. The lotus didn't get removed because of lack of credits, but because skiper used a model part of a game that you have to pay for. Credits or not, they could still send a copyright claim. In fact, if you give them credit it probably even makes it easier to get the mod taken down, because you basically 'admit' that you have taken the model from another game (although it wouldn't be hard to open up the model from skiper and compare it to the model from Assetto).

There is no fordcrownvic_public-3? There is just fordcrownvic_public.zip.

Anyway, if its opening in notepad then you have set windows to open .zip or .rar files in notepad, which is entirely user error and not mod error.

    Get 7zip: http://www.7-zip.org/
Install it and restart the PC (or at least explorer.exe, but guessing if your suffering from this issue you will find it easier to restart PC).
Right click fordcrownvic_public.zip, in the right click menu will now be a 7-zip entry, mouse over it and select Open Archive.
It will open the 7zip window with the contents of the zip, which happen to be a rar file. Double click that rar and 7zip will navigate into it showing a folder called FordCrownVic. Click and drag that folder into your vehicles folder. Somewhere along the line it will ask for a password, thats in the original post.

Or just press "extract here" and put in the password then move the extracted folder to the vehicles folder in the Drive directory.

So I make a game out of Russian mods which is basically "Guess the stolen N/B".

and I stumbled upon this. Didn't take long, did it? Also I noticed that spawning this and the Grand Marshal together to have the predictable demolition derby. There's a materials conflict so you might want to sort it out.

Some russian have paid the game and have full access to this part of the forum, so they can have those model...

The only possibility to get access to a model without beeing stolen (but it's not safe too, the only real possibility to doesn't make it appears on russian website is to doesn't give it to the community, but the interest is limited...) Is to demand to send PM request a download link to have it :/

Request PMs for the Password AND the link to download it: there are lots of archive password cracks on the net, it's really easy :/

Sadly that most likely won't work. The person who downloaded it here and reuploaded it there, will most likely just ask for the password and upload it there again, and you still won't know who it was, since I guess there will be tons of people wanting the downloads to your mods..

    Still loving this mod...

And for the whole Russian thing, I still think, not being racist and im not profiling, but there is a whole section of this forum for Russians. Shouldn't that be one of the first places we police?? Or is there anyway of tracking what these people download? That's like an open door from here to the Russian sites...since they are Russian. Its just annoying hearing this crap all the time. Clogging up the forums. The only way, which Ive said before, is to physically label each car, almost like a VIN number, in a place only the modder knows where, like tiny font on a control arm on the top side of it so its not really visible from underneath, or inside the seat mesh or something. And each person who wants the car gets their own specific vin number, and the modder who uploads the mod will keep track of it. Other than that, theres really no way of AT LEAST keeping track of which car/person has made it onto a Russian crapmod site.

I mean, a VIN number that is "assigned" to personX will be on a mod that is illegally on a Russian site, so once that mod is downloaded, the original author will be able to uncover the secret text and be like "Oh, this is personX's car, so he obviously uploaded it or shared it to the enemy"

    Re: 1999 Ford Crown Victoria

Discussing with a colleague I figured out a potential way to work this out.

    Lets assume:
    • vehicle files will be packed fully encrypted
    • the game can be started with a special launcher that can decrypt the files
    • decrypting the files will also create massively obfuscated jbeams (and potentially dae)

I would need to remember how to use encryption in C# and make sure it will require my code so that decompiling it will be useless. And make sure I can obfuscate jbeams in a way that the vehicle is still fully usable the same as before and without performance loss. But if you have 10000 jbeam files and everything is renamed randomly it should be nearly impossible to retrieve the proper contents and recompose the vehicle.

    Any thoughts ?

    EDIT:
Nah obfuscated names can't work because the game will display those random things. Or it will be a pain to the users... I also thought about a ramdisk created on-the-fly but it still would be accessible via alt+tab when the game is running. Maybe not if we can create a temporary Windows user on-the-fly that is the only one to have access to those files even for reading ? Would be easier to figure if the game could provide something for us...

I know I'm missing plenty of things here so those who have the knowledge please develop :).
