Things wrong with your model: 1. Horrible poly flow Why do you have to make everything so complicated? Why is there 5 vertices where there should be one? Why does your roof have almost ideal polyflow, but the quarter panels are a complete mess? Look at the official cars' mesh fot reference. 2. No edge split Just select edge split modifier, set it to 40-60 and apply. You'll see the difference. 3. Weird lumps everywhere For example, why does the hood have two bulging "boobs" in the middle? Here's the difference between a good polyflow and a bad one:
I should add more lights to the roof rack. Obviously --- Post updated --- The lumps are part of the real car, only exaggerated. I have used edge split here is the changes, I suppose it helps the front. But it wrecked the back. After looking at it, maybe I limited dissolved it, would have to redo the entire rear. BUt how am I supposed to fix a bad polyflow? Redo the bad parts? If so I may as well redo the model. (Again) --- Post updated --- I cannot fix it, I would have to redo the model, however I will wait until keys has finished before working on the sedan, the pickup and van I will work on myself.
You sure the edge split modifier doesn't help? Left: no modifier, right: with modifier There is also manual way to split the edges, do that if you want to split only a certain edge without changing the rest of the model. Select an edge(s), press V and pull in the desired direction. And yes, you should redo the body, doors and trunk models. You always make a detailed model, try making a simple bodyshell first. If it's bad, the less time was wasted doing it.
This is just a... tragedy to be honest. You should keep the body in a grid-like polyflow, with even quads (squares). And not that we're mocking you in any way; we're just trying to help you make a usable mesh that looks good Something like this (even though it's still not perfect):
I deleted all the bits that needed redoing and what was left looked interesting, that's the only reason I'm posting it.
Kudos to you for biting the bullet and making the model better. That's the kind of attitude that should give you a good final product. For giggles, you should keep a copy of the old model just so you can look back and see how much progress you've made. It's always fun to look back at the first few drafts of a model you make and see how you were able to improve it
Unfortunately I didn't save the first version of the model however You can trust my word that it looked like a potato with wheels.
I was having a long hard think and I have come up with a list of different configs for the charmand, ones in blue would most likely be in future updates. Red is a concept, 50/50 chance of it being created probably more like 20/80 now I think about it. Sedan stock Pickup stock Van stock Rally sedan (roof rack, lights etc) Sedan facelift Pickup facelift Van facelift Carrot styx special (This is an inside joke) Family outing sedan Loaded Pickup (might explain more about the loads later as I have a cool idea for them) Loaded PIckup facelift Military Pickup Camper Van Tow truck The 8 wheeled things (Someone please explain why everyone thought they were a good idea. I was just messing around you know)
If anyone else has ideas for configs please leave them below and I will update the post adding to it.
I know, but it's nice to have options and know what people want. Depending on what people want I may change small parts of pre-existing meshes and I may as well not have to go back and change them and instead know what to make 1st time around.
