It's still a bit early to decide on aftermarket configs, but of course rally and baja configs will be included. It wouldn't be a complete XJ mod without those kinds of configs.
Is progress still somewhat halted because of school? OT: Will this have a RHD Version? XJ's were sold in the UK, Europe, and Australia.
It is delayed still, but my half term break starts on Friday. And yes, of course there will eventually be an RHD version. I'm making the LHD one first because a) it would fit with the Hopper, b) if I released it initially as only RHD it would annoy many Americans that their car isn't as it should be and c) it's targeted mainly at USDM customers rather than native JDM ones, to compete with the Roamer.
I can get you sound-clips if you'd like,I'm not scared to bounce my comanche off rev-limiter, I've owned almost 12 cherokee's since I was 16 so I know their limits very well. aha. I have a go-pro and Canon T3i, so any thing you need shoot me a PM. I also am a self-certified XJ/MJ nut, any specs, drive-train/transmission combos/ or any info you need to know just ask.
Thanks for the offer. I'll send a PM to let you know if I need you for anything I've gotten as far as playing with textures and getting them to actually work, but I've got an issue with the model not being two sided in places as you an see here I've tried specifying doubleSided in the materials.cs part of it and setting it to 1, but hasn't changed anything Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would also be happy if anyone who is experienced with modding could lend me a hand with getting this car running, mainly the suspension parts and possibly some lua stuff too for some of my ideas for later. It would help, since many people (including me ) would like to see this car released as a beta soon, and it would help speed up the process. PM me if you're willing to give me a hand with it (ofc, you'll be credited on releases of the mod).
Do you use the Solidify modifier in Blender? If not, then use it & it will create the inner side of the mesh so then it's double sided. But be warned, it can be quite finnicky around lips or overhangs on the model. ALSO, when you press N to bring up the side panel in Blender & scroll down you'll see an option called "Backface calling". Turn it on & it will show you all the spots where the mesh is onesided when you rotate the camera around
Cool, thanks for letting me know, Also postal jeeps were a thing as well but I digress. Good to see that your making a bit more progress
Just to confirm, no, this thread isn't dead. I've been busy with work again, and I wasn't very motivated to do much in the holiday, so not much has been done. That being said, a lot more JBeam work has been done since, and the hood, front doors and fenders have been JBeamed in and tuned to deform properly. However I can't show pictures, as they're not finished quite yet. Also, as I continue working on the body JBeam, their mounting nodes keep changing, so they always fall off All I need to do to get the engine running properly, thanks to @Capkirk , is an exhaust and a fuel tank. Which I may be able to get working this weekend, but I'm not completely sure. I'm glad to hear all the positivity from you guys, it really helps me find reasons to get working on this. I'm still a bit iffy on the suspension front though. I'm not completely sure on how to get everything JBeamed in, although I did find that the shocks, springs and some of the arms use slidenodes as rails to move up and down on. Springs and shocks should be quite easy to do, but other parts might not. Especially the diffs and driveshafts. The interior is another thing I want to get started on, and I've found that the older interior is quite different to the one in my 2000 Cherokee. It's a lot squarer, and I personally prefer the look of it - it being sqaurer isn't really a bad thing, just makes it easier to model. One thing I really would like to do is get the warning lights working through lua. Mods like the Scirocco, Oldsfullsize and the B2 have shown me how far you can go with displays in Beam, especially things like a real-time accurate clock, coolant lights, check engine lights etc. I'm pretty sure that since the game can tell where damage has occured, I could get something like this to work : As far as I can find, this was only offered on the Wagoneers, but I might be wrong. The brake/pad light could be scripted to come on when the brakes overheat or are damaged/faded, the axle lights could come on when axles break, etc. I would be very happy if anyone could show me how to get this working, along with the much simpler standard warning panel:
look what i found while searching for the cherokee orvis --- Post updated --- will the total exposure version be available
Nice find there I've noticed that as well, since I've mentioned it so much in this thread. Possibly, although it will come with the 97+ expansion later on (the Scout will be an expansion as well - forgot to mention that, I decided to rename the Chinook as the Scout) as it's based on a 2000 model. It's actually in my colour, Silverstone Metallic, as far as I can tell. There might be a concept expansion, as if I did this car (or a version replicating it) I would also do the Africana (a limited production model, also a 4-door with an open rear),: The Casablanca, a more popular 1997 concept with a similar off-roady spec as the Total Exposure (the TE was actually also named the Casablanca 2),: The Freedom and Targa (as mentioned before, a 2-door convertibles),: And the Thunderchief, a modified Comanche: However these will only be attempted when the base car is finished, of course.
You'd be meaning 2-door. Yes, there is, later on. I'll have to decide what to do first after the 4-door - the Scout or the 2-door Blackfoot.
Yeah, it was a typo. It can be common at times with some commenters (especially on phones). OT: Will the intake cowl snorkel be added to the engine bay when you start modelling the engine? Since we are gonna get off-road modifications, this would be a good way to execute the entire snorkel for the Blackfoot.
