The USDM AE86 is an AE86,contrary to popular belief.I daily drive one and on the original service manual and military sales booklet they both refer to it as an ae86, as well as the plate in the engine bay that has the vin and model number.
Also the sr5 model is not an AE85, and AE85 is a Japanese only model which has the 3AU engine and the USDM sr5 has the 4AC

The AE88 thing was started by a youtuber called Regular Car Reviews who did a video on the AE86 and he was misinformed and called the USDM models an AE88

What i understand is that the guy from regular car reviews (i watch his videos for a long time but i still dont know his name...) misunderstood and told that the american Corolla/Sprinter Trueno had in the chassis code ae88, but is actually ae86 (i can't confirm that, im going for SpeedySpeedBoi's info here)

Much like what Speedy said, when I looked it up, I read that AE88 was in the VIN number of US AE86s.

I'd assume that AE88 would simply be a designation given to the American AE86s to separate them from the original Japanese AE86s, while upon further inspection you'd see that they're exactly the same car with only a few differences, namely different trims and the US one being LHD instead of RHD.

The whole point of this is just to prove that there was a LHD 86 that was sold in america.

Righto, about the AE88 vs AE86 thing

They are the same car on the exact same chassis, one lacks 12hp because of a different intake air metering system, has massive bumpers and is exclusively LHD.

The closest the US got to the AE85 was indeed the 86 SR5 with the SOHC 4A-C which shares displacement and (probably) the block with the 4A-GE, but only makes 90something HP as apposed to the 85~hp from the 3A-U, which was also found in some Toyota Tercels in the US market to my knowledge

The European one is the exact same but we only got Levins from Toyota dealers from what I remember reading, the only """"Real"""" Truenos are Jap made, as they're the only ones which actually came with Trueno grille badging instead of Toyota grille badging, but that's more a "well technically" thing than an actual truth.
    .

I will call the USDM 86 an 88 because it's a lot less clunkier than saying "AE86 you ess dee emm gee tee ess / ess are five"

I should stop reading articles about 30 year old Corollas. And instead construct a 40 year old Corolla.

On another topic, I feel bad for Schumacher having to deal with the constant "hurr looks goode broski" on this, as apposed to people using the like feature like they should be, unless of course they're actually giving useful feedback such as "You could improve on *not an already known issue*". Not to mention the constant over saturated "inishal dee haha, dejawoo urobeet intensifie" memes here, those physically hurt to see, along with the roleplay pfps. oof.

Neither of those are AE"88"s. Both are European levins.

Oh, and this thread is unlocked again! That was worrying for a bit. I hope Schumacher had a nice vacation:)

Indeed it is. Nice AE92 find! Maybe somebody will make an AE92 config! Also, based on your profile picture I've attached a photo I know you'll like!
