Right so I've had the game absolutely years, used to play it on a really old pc which had been highly upgraded but it struggled to run it. If I wanted at least 20 FPS I had to run it on lowest settings and have it on the smallest screen possible.

However when I got a Lenovo flip screen laptop built for gaming, it was not much better and ran at around 10 - 15 fps. Although I could now run the game in full screen on lowest settings. I'd usually get up to 3 cars too running at between 5 and 15 fps.

Then that laptop broke and I borrowed a 5 year old Toshiba that seemed to run the game with up to 6 or 7 cars at around 10 - 20 fps. But it'd still run with 2 - 3 cars at anywhere from 10 - 30 fps.

None of this made any sense but I've used this Toshiba for a while now and it's been great at running the game and made me feel like there's no reason to buy a gaming PC as this is decent enough for what I want to do.

All of a sudden last week I went on the game and it was that slow I gave up completely with it. I recon it was running at 2 - 4 fps no matter what I tried. The thing is, when you load in with that white truck it was running at a good 30 - 40 fps, then when I change my car "no matter what car it is" it goes down to about 10 fps. Then I open up the bit to change the colour and modify the config, then it's running at around 4 fps and it's pretty much impossible to play.

I tried things such as closing all my tabs and windows, disconnecting the internet, keeping the laptop on charge at all times, running it completely on lowest settings with everything turned off and on grid small pure.

However as soon as I go to change out of the truck again, it hits me with instant lag and it's impossible to play the game.

I spawn in another car after at least 2 minutes of trying, then all of a sudden the lag gets even worse, then about 15 seconds later the game was running at a good 25 - 30 fps. Makes no sense.

Then after driving about for 10 - 15 seconds, the lag came back. Then when I smashed the car into the other one a few times the lag went away for a while (3 minutes or so)

Then I found out that if I press the pause button and leave it 5 seconds, the lag goes away for about 15 seconds and then you have to repeat this process and it's incredibly annoying and doesn't always work.

I think it could be the laptop at fault now as it's saying I should consider replacing the battery on it.

Anyone know how to possibly help me without telling me to replace my battery!

I had similar issues while playing games on an old windows tablet (not a good idea btw). I'm no expert on this, but I remember it having something to do with the tablet forcibly reducing the power going to the GPU because of overheating. I think there's a way to disable this, but I don't remember what that is. Tbh, I think it's just time for you to get an upgrade.

Those things are not meant to be going full-power for longer times.
They mostly have passive heating system (no fans), so they don't cool down as quickly as they heat up.
The 'Thermal Throttling' stuff is a safety measure, to avoid hardware damage when temperature goes too high, not sure if you can disable it, but in any case you shouldn't either.

Something tells me it's the battery that needs to be replaced for it to run how it used to.

However if I go on Rigs Of Rods, that's not laggy really and is the same as it used to be. Only seems to effect BeamNG.

Only things that I can try really is restarting it, taking the battery out and putting it back in. Then disconnect the internet and close all windows and tabs

You could also try to clean the inside, laptops get just as clogged up as any computer if not more so. Especially if keeping the laptop plugged in still has issues.

    OK SO AN UPDATE!

New Battery came in the post today, cost £35 and has minimally helped.

RIGS OF RODS - I can now have around 6 cars without any major lag issues so very pleased with that.

BeamNG - Erm, not much better but I do see a minimal improvement. And it's put me off playing the game for good. Until someone can suggest anything I can try to get it working properly!

It's very unusual. The Pick Up Truck spawns in and it runs incredibly smoothly. Then you swap out the pick up for any other vehicle and the lag just hits you, probably 8 - 10 fps at best. Spawn in another car and it's the same if not slightly worse. Then after 5 minutes or so, if you crash into the other car and then go into the car you just crashed into, boom, high fps (at least 30) for about 10 seconds, then it's back to how it was pretty much.

Yes, very smooth and doesn't really lose any speed.

    that is really weird.
make sure you have the powerplan set to high performance.
otherwise i would try deleting and reinstalling the game.

    yes, the powerplan in windows.
you find it in the control panel, under hardware and sound -> energy saving options.

Oh that, wasn't sure what you meant but that was what I thought you could have meant lol.

    Yeah, it was on balanced.

Changed it now and it's running nicely but we'll see if anything happens considering I've only spawned 1 car in so far
