If we're gonna fill in the gap with another map between those maps, that might mean we finally will get a Rockies/Midwest USA map once and for all (though we still don't have coverage for the Southeastern part of the USA).
If we do see future USA maps, I think that the Midwest might be a good choice for a large (12 sq. km+) map - lots of room for long freeways, and since much of the map would be taken up by cropland, optimizing that vegetation might yield very good framerates.
Depends on the state this possible map is majorly based off. ECA is a Maine-based map, while WCA is a California-based map. Anyways, this would be the third time the map is mostly wilderness or rural. WCA doesn't fit in due to the fact that it has a big city (and some other factors).
How about African savannahs? Or Asian countryside with jungle, rice fields (welcome to them, motherf*r), muddy rivers and temples? *has vietnam flashbacks*
Well I actually used to live in the Midwest, west suburbs of Chicago to be exact COUGH Naperville COUGH But it would be cool to see some huge farms and simple 1 lane roads lined with old telephone poles in BeamNG
Yeah - I'm thinking lower Midwest - Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas... the great plains area. Wide open spaces, long stretches of straight road, a big superhighway running diagonally across the map, farms with big machine yards for donuts, barns for barn finds, dirt roads that rise sharply at intersections with paved roads, all that sort of thing. Maybe even a long stretch of straight railroad track - just to give modders something to work with.
I'll admit to having thought of making a map based around my native Missouri, but it would capture the somewhat hilly karst topography of the Ozarks more than the flat farmland of the Great Plains (as seen here, here, and here). No true mountains, but some elevation changes and exposed cliff faces. Maybe a cave somewhere. I would capture the flat farmland area too, but I think 2048 would be a large enough size for the area. I'd also pondered a savannah map at one point as well*. A few broad rivers cutting through semiarid, course terrain. 1000+ year-old baobabs and umbrella-thorn acacias scattered around the region. The biggest problems with new official maps like these is that they have to fit the game, though. I'd love to see maps set in Africa, or India, or a knockoff New Orleans, but this game, being built around the car, is limited in terms of what's worth focusing on. Subsaharan Africa doesn't have much of a burgeoning car scene, and southeast Asia has far more motorcycles than automobiles, just to name a few examples of the issue of purpose. This is exacerbated when we talk cities, which with rare exception are not much fun to navigate behind the wheel. Perhaps when/if we get a greater variety of vehicles, some more exotic locales could and should be considered. Until then, though, the maps will have to serve the gameplay. *Yeah, I come up with more ideas than I can realistically complete. As evidenced by the fact that I've not yet finished any of my creations.
@Occam's Razer just some ideas, solely based on driving gameplay: To be honest, if we had to add 1 more us map, i'd go with North Carolina . It's in the south, filled with beautiful mountains and many small towns. It's also home to the Blue Ridge Parkway too, aswell as part of the Tail of the Dragon. Likely it would become ECA: Hardmode. Tiny, winding 1 lane roads on the mountains with sheer drops on each side (100% did not have a relative break his neck when he rolled his pickup off a cliff there), overgrown highways, rivers with whitewater rapids, beautiful vistas, small towns and villages alongside open, meandering country roads. For a second map, I would suggest Upstate New York. Preferably in the winter. It would be made of aging rust belt cities, multitudes of freeways, and sprawling suburbs. Enjoy the sport of "car surfing" as you try to navigate slush covered boulevards, fly down the freeway at breakneck speeds, or get your hubcaps stolen in the many slums. Honorable mentions include: Idaho (near Wyoming , a flat empty desert with mountains in the background ) Wyoming (preferably near the Grand Tetons or Yellowstone)
well if a Missouri based map happens, a lifted 1970s D-series with big tires needs to happen (maybe but you can't go wrong with the Big Blue Ford that started Monster Trucking)
Don't forget Colorado - it's where the Million Dollar Highway is: There's also very good off-roading in that same area:
Guys, I hate to be this guy, but can we please take the map discussion somewhere else? I don't want to sound rude or anything, but this thread is for update speculating.
I know we have TotD already made as a separate map, but can you imagine how cool would it be to have it as a part of a big(er) map? Driving through a forest-ish area, then suddenly you see a sign that says something along the lines of "Welcome to Tail of the Dragon! It'll burn you!" (is there even a sign irl?) Would love to take a drive throught it, while coming from a more "flat" terrain on the same map
I don't want be "that guy" either, but I believe you even created new thread about maps in Suggestions and Ideas. Talking about "possible things" that doesn't have any proof from dev team always ends with spam of requests.
Wait, occams razer got hired by BeamNG? This is the dream of my life --- Post updated --- Also I do think one or two more maps are a good idea, by then we need to move on to other places on the globe. What about a twisty Japanese mountain pass where you can brush up your drift skills? A Caribbean island where you can take a virtual vacation? Slippery British Roads? Crash into the BeamNG offices in Bremen? The possibilities are endless. Seriously though, make a Bremen map complete with a replica of BeamNG Offices
