A friend of mine recently checked out the tech demo, and was disappointed with it. He was a little annoyed with the fact that he got only a slow car with 'a top speed of 90 mph'. While I don't entirely agree with him, as he's still lucky to get that for free, I think that maybe an update to the tech demo should be added; the current version may be turning people off. All that I think is needed is the parts selector, so tech demo users will be able to put the turbo engine, race or rally tires, improved suspension etc. This feature was in the original tech demo, and I loved it before I bought the full game. Again, this is just my opinion, and you may have better ideas for luring in potential buyers.
People should be happy they even get to try it. The demo is a demonstration. The pickup truck in that map shows fine what beamNG has to offer. The demo is not something to be played, but just something to try.
I guess my point is that the newer tech demo does not present the game as well as the last one. I believe that if it has a few customization options, maybe to make the car a little faster, the players will be encouraged to buy the full game. Also, I think that you are talking about the old tech demo which cannot be downloaded anymore. The new one has fewer options.
I actually tried downloading the new tech demo myself, and the parts selector has been removed. Just for clarification, the old tech demo with the Gavril D series is unavailable, having been replaced with a new tech demo with the Covet, but no parts selector. You are unable to drive any Covet model except the base.
So did I, but some people were complaining that it was to slow. I would agree with the decision to have the Covet instead, except that there is no parts selector and no option to upgrade to the turbo models.
I mean the tech demo is to demo the.. tech. It's to see how the physics engine works and whatnot. Sad thing is, most people will just pirate because they don't want to be limited in any way.
That would be great! - - - Updated - - - I guess my point is that the new tech demo is more limited than the old one, and that's a little off-putting.
Feinstein has a solid point. For people that don't do much research about the game and just try the tech demo, they might think that that is what the full game is.
OK, here's the link (since I can't get it to work via the attachments) http://www.mediafire.com/download/9yx3cnugnpe1u7j/BeamNG+Techdemo+v1.zip
Does anybody else have the old tech demo? If so, could you post it in the form of an attatchment? My antivirus shows mediafire as a virus-prone website. Thanks!
It's harmless, nothing happened to me when I downloaded it, or for that matter, the 100 other files of off mediafire. I belive it just says it's virus prone because people put virusses into their downloads, I didn't though, since a) I don't even know how to do that and b) I'm a nice person
The download is clean, just scanned it (not that it wouldn't be). On topic: I don't think a new tech demo is needed. After all, there is the current (and previous) trailer, along with a number of YouTubers to help people get a feel for the game and what it actually is. It's a tech demo. For demoing the tech, what I see as the physics engine.
You may be right. My only problem is that when they made a new tech demo(with the covet), it lost the parts editor and the option to have different trim lines of the same model that was in the old tech demo(the one with the pickup). I think that if it was added to the new tech demo, it would show people a little more of what's possible with BeamNG, and encourage them to buy the full game. This is just my opinion, and the devs probably have their own ideas (which may be more likely to be correct)
For me V2 is good enough. It is not that outdated and gives a good idea about the physics and if your PC can even handle it. Only thing I didn't like was tire physics. When I with various crashing methods pulled one tire off the Covet, it went places. Literally.
i remember i think tech demo v2 or v1 with the old parts selector and static image menu (i do kinda miss the old UI back then). I do agree that both the base cover isn't enough fun to convince someone to buy the game, but that the point of the game isn't how fast a car can go, but how fast can you make it go before you mess up the suspension on a side wheel and cant drive straight.
