I bought myself a 3D printer to make some cars i couldn't get kits for. While playing Beam I thought it had some interesting cars, so i thought i'd try one. The mesh are accessible, so i imported it into 3D studio Max and after some considerable fettling... eg I separated the floor from the body and i had to fill a few holes that weren't normally visible. A few issues i found was some parts are too small to 3D print, like the handles. I also had to separate some parts, and some didn't print very nice, like the front spring. some detail was lost as that was on the bump texture (eg tailgate branding). Size is about 1/25 scale, which fits with the rest of my collection. Are you planning to print out the other cars? I would love to see the complete “BeamNG 3D Printed Model Collection” line!
I think this is one of the best 3D printed BeamNG vehicles I've seen. Stuff like this is why I think tdev and all should consider doing merchandise. I'd love to have something like this sitting on the shelf.
Yes, i'd like to try a few more of them. thinking the Bolide might be next. i could also print another Pigeon and do the V8 version "My First 3d Printer". actually it's a Flashforge Finder, a cheap $400 printer. it's been pretty good so far. only 'issues' have been things like filament running out during a print. it has wireless, which is good to have. I need to get a smaller nozzle to do really small parts (eg the gas pedal was too small to print). 1/25 to match the rest of my collection of plastic model cars. just a tad over 5 inches. https://www.flickr.com/photos/87459383@N07/albums
8 staff picks!? Thats pretty amazing! I mean I don't have a 3d printed but I have always thought about getting one to do something like this.
Wow that's an amazing collection! I can see your an Aussie by looking at the cars in your collection... any chance you might be making an S-Series Chrysler Valiant in the future And I would love to see more BeamNG cars made!! EDIT: Just read the Scale Auto article, it was really interesting. I recommend everyone else interested should read it if they haven't already (link in original post)
From the pictures i am going to assume you used a FDM printer, how much support material did you need to remove ?
That's awesome! If I could afford a 3d printer, I would do a d series in 1/25th. Since the d is my favorite beam truck.
Very well done sir! Well done indeed! The final model is a really quality product! I am impressed! Out of curiosity, what printer do you own?
