Isn't that the reason why we were given JATO in a first place? Just strap enough of those to it, should do just fine :p

Well, as you know, when we get our sticky paws on these gravity bodies, there are certain experiments that needs to be conducted and Pigeon shuttle certainly warrants some experimenting, but I'm not sure if it has surface area large enough to fit sufficient amount of JATO units.

I do have one Negh'Var class ship that I found collecting dust and it might be more suitable for the use :p

Are we discussing importing spaceships to BeamNG? I might have stuff to contribute. ;)

Didn't we have a model rocket made by someone on here? We could test the gravity etc. using it on "planets" :D

That is cool, I'm quite certain there will be need for such as more is learned about these gravity changes. I have one ufo made, but it is not very good, meant mostly to be a prop than anything else, however some proper space craft like things has been back of my head for a long time.

This is one I found, it is only for personal use by site that offered it, so not much point to spend too much time on it, but maybe there is a day we see something similar in BeamNG, it just might be that beam limit is causing issues, as tri-articulated bus is already hitting limits, this is 'slightly' bigger and way too big project for me, but it might make small planets to move or something :p

682 meters long, model from https://free3d.com/3d-model/negh-var-class-klingon-spaceship-56412.html (it actually has textures too, I was too lazy to set them up)

I have some non-cannon trek ship's I've been working on, and a couple shuttles that might fit BeamNG scale a bit better.
I've got a few others that were intended to go in KSP or Space Engine eventually. I'm at work so I don't have any pictures handy.

Ships also lack moving parts unlike a tri-articulated bus, and there's no reason (I think) a jbeam can't be simplified, since it's just a glorified collider mesh.

The person who made that was also working on a solar system map and a SpaceX rocket, but he has since canceled those projects and left the forums.

I'm quite interested of this gravity update because it might help to make this toy to work more like how I want:
    https://www.beamng.com/threads/drivable-ufo.55264/

In that uploaded version you need to use wind app to get it to move. I have a version that has propulsion, but I did run out thruster controls like previous guys making Ufo, then I did make very complex system that uses aerofoils, rudders etc. while having bearing at center so invisible wings and rudders would always face direction of travel, haven't had time or motivation to finish that though and it does not work so well.

jbeam of UFO itself is very simple as it was never meant to be a vehicle but a prop, originally I think it was just 6 nodes, which did allow spawning 100 of those.

So certainly with space ship one could go with very simple jbeam, but then again it would be kinda cool to have good deformation of the space ship. Seeing how part of ship gets ripped off while speed or course of ship remains unchanged, or some dense object tearing structure apart in super massive scale, that would be cool and maybe some day that too becomes possible.

There is also way around of beam limitation by having parts of ships as trailers for example.

This gravity update might bring much more to game than what initially was thought :p

Got a quick question... If the planets were right next to each other with gravity. Does the car gets pulled from opposites direction? I mean like ripping a car like.

That isn't how gravity works; in theory, the grativational forces from two equal masses at equal distances would cancel out, and the car would float in a stable position (if there was no other source of gravity)

Actually, with large amounts of gravity in small places (Like what you get with a black hole, but to a lesser extent) the tidal forces between the too would stretch the car out. The bodies would have to be very close together, and have high gravity.

All you have to do to know it for sure is take Newton's law of universal gravitation and see what resulting forces are applied on the car with two equal bodies at equal distances from it.

I can't do the maths right now but if I were to guess, even two black holes next to the car wouldn't rip it apart as the forces would, in theory, cancel out, regardless of how strong they are. Only with a huge body between the two planets would it make a significant difference IMO

All I know is that black holes tend to be bit of the edge in what usual physics can be applied to. It is so small massive thing that everything starts behaving odd way and while BeamNG physics engine can simulate huge masses, I do remain bit doubtful about actual black holes, afaik. science is not quite solid enough regarding those that they could be perfectly simulated, there is so much guesswork still among those.

There would be a lot of timing issues alone.

Coming to effective range of gravity well would be like hitting a pothole if gravity body is massive and small enough as well as velocity great enough, I guess, lot of sudden acceleration which is what rips things apart.

Introducing great mass next to another might cause some acceleration to objects that were stable near original gravity source, that is why flyby of planetoid could be interesting experiment.

Leave them be next to each other and acceleration eventually disappears.

So there is your status quo and there there is state of chaos, latter you make by creating a change, two gravity bodies next to each other are rather stable status quo, but having 3rd massive one coming near those and then leaving will create a lot of chaos to anything nearby.

It is like glass of water which is perfectly stable, until you introduce some change, enough high magnetic force can push out water from the glass, enough massive gravity body traveling near enough will be like Takumi hitting a pothole.

That is at least how I imagine it being in my stupid brain.

Of course all this is needed to experimented with when we get gravity update to our sticky paws, who knows there might be some learning to be done :p

The problem is, with an infinitely small point, yes, nothing would happen.

But heres the problem, while the forces would cancel out in the center of the car, the extremities would not.

Gravity lessens over distance, and in such an extreme scenario gravity reduces greatly in tiny spaces, because with a body so small, the distances that gravity declines in effect becomes shortened.

Excellent thing on explaining some effects of lots of gravity in small spaces.
    https://what-if.xkcd.com/68/

There is a real world term for what happens when due to a lot of gravity in a small amount of space, if you were orientated upright to the body, your feet would experience a greater amount of gravity pull then your head, since the change in gravity is so amplified over as little as a few meters.

In the extremes (Black holes) the term for this is "Spaghettification" when a object has such a difference in the gravity of the top and bottom, it stretches your molecules out into a tiny tube shape.

If this was applied in two magically unmoving objects, the gravity would effectively be pulling your feet to one body at a monumentally greater rate then your center, and your head pulled in the same way, ripping yourself apart.

This is a extreme, two black holes next to each over type scenario, but it would still work (although to a less "spaghettifying" degree, between two bodies placed a good 10 meters apart with Jupiter gravity, you could definitely stretch and rip a car apart.

Now that you brought up spaghettification, I remember reading about that long long time ago. I'm bit doubtful thought that it is simulated in game as that would take quite bit more than simple enabling gravity to several bodies, coding simulation for such might require quite bit of work, so probably it is not part of the game.
