BeamNG could implement straight cut gears as another option for the transmission. And for some of the "normal" everyday cars (Ibishu Pessima, Covet, Sunburst etc.) when you reverse you can add the straight cut gear sound too. The reason why i say everyday cars is because for the reverse gear, automakers use straight cut gears because its cheaper. They use helical cut gears for the other gears cause the average person doesnt want to hear a whine everytime for a daily commute. For race cars (Bolide 390 GTR for example) you can let it have straight cut gears default maybe? But definitely for some type of race car in BeamNG should have straight cut gears default. Cause i mean, who doesnt want to hear straight cut gears on the track when racing? It sounds godly.
It is coming, afaik. I hope there is option to tone then down though as sound is mostly annoying, but surely that is how all race transmission would sound.
It's currently in the game, however: 1. It's commented out. 2. It sounds awful. It definitely needs a lot of improvement before official release.
i've been using it for a couple months now, only for reverse, and i kind of like it. it sounds okay at normal reversing speeds 0-10mph, and it just adds a slight bit of realism (even if the sound really isn't that good) however, i used it on my 4-speed GM drift car, and the sound was unbearably bad.
it's super simple. somewhere in the lua files, i believe it's in manualGearbox.lua, there's a line of code, or a couple of lines, or whatever. it's just commented out with two slashes, and if you remove the slashes, it becomes active the game treats it as such.
wait but Tsutarja495 had it in forward gears. Is there another part of the lua that you can change for the forward gears to have it?
it's customizable per transmission. something like "straightCutGearIndex": [-1, 1, 2, 3, 6], to get it in first, second, third, sixth, and reverse. but stock vehicle transmissions i mean, they only come with it for reverse. if you wanna make your own transmission, you can add other gears to use it as well.
where are the .lua files? I looked around a bit but it's the first time i do it so i don't know where they might be
