    Recently picked up a 1999 B5 Passat 1.8t 5-speed for a winter beater. While not super unreliable, everything is so expensive. Here's a list so far:
    Brakes (all 4 rotors, all 4 pads, rear calipers): $550
    A/C Relay: $60(!)
    Motor mounts: $120

    Basically, everything is 2x a honda or a mazda or something cheap with plentiful parts. But I knew this going in, and its pretty fun to drive, so oh well.

    Should have been more clear. By bad, I meant poorly designed.

    The least reliable car i have is my current winter car a VW golf MK4 with 2.0l engine and manual. I have it for 2 months now and it has broken down more often than i can count mostly because it gets too much fuel and everytime we change a part related to that its broken but not the source of the problem

    It's too bad you can't share the same luck as me. I have the exact same car, and really nothing has ever gone bad since new
    Well, the all important engine light is on, but we can ignore that ^^;

    Yeah for me the check engine the airbag and the traction control lights were on since i bought it now its just the traction control light wich should come on but that would cost more than the car is worth wich would be a shame as i like to drive it

    Ignore that light for too long and your luck will run out.

    Probably at some point. So far it was just the o2 sensor freaking out every now and then
    (I'll change it someday, I don't know, it mostly figures things out)
    (;^^)
    Besides, isn't it some kinda rule that all VWs have them on anywayy??
