how would an i7-6700k do with beamng? not sure if anyone has one/has tried the banana in a while with one. I can get one right now but need to know if its a good upgrade from an i3-6100

The i7-6700k is basically just an i3-6100 with slightly higher clock speeds and twice as many cores.

You can run more vehicles, but your performance at 1 vehicle shouldn't significantly change.

Yeah, but there is overclocking, which with 6700k is pretty much at same line as anything that has come after it. Running at 4.8Ghz will give significiant boost over i3-6100.

Also my 1 car result is 40Mbeams/s with i7-6700 non K model, that is 4Ghz at tops (something between 3.8-4.0 most likely), with all cores loaded I get 3.7Ghz, with 4.8Ghz overclocked 6700k would be a massive upgrade, 8th and 9th gen have too many cores and heat issues prevent them to reach clocks which those could reach otherwise.

That is why I would think 6700k would be best upgrade from i3-6100, no point really getting 8th or 9th gen as those won't do any better as at least for now BeamNG will be single core limited so quickly, that is what I found out with 8086k, single core just is not going enough high to not be a bottleneck for other 11 threads.

For the money (at least prices which I have seen locally) 4790k and 6700k are the best, 8600k if one needs 8th gen as those extra cores just won't help so much, also if one has already z170 or z270 motherboard, then upgrade to 6700k gives all the performance one can have at the moment.

In a future of course 8th gen or 9th gen might do better, or Ryzen or upcoming new Zen, depends how well developers can lower CPU bottleneck of the game, but as Nadeox posted single threaded engine is considered good for them, it is likely one will need very fast single core cpu in future too.

I'm so much between the two myself, to get better motherboard and run 8086k or to get 6700k which would be win8 compatible and also run faster in practice, but then I would give out 4 threads and if lower single core would do in future, then those extra threads would be useful.

So I try to wait and see, which is easy when I don't have money for other upgrades for a while :D

I am winging it and I found a 1060 5 gig dual fan for 75 bucks on ebay, gonna throw it in when I get it and see if it works...and before you say "there is no 5 gig, just 3 and 6 gig", these cards were available in china and are pretty cheaply made. That being said, before I drop like 400 bucks on a legit brand new card, ill see if a better gfx card would boost my fps. I am pretty happy currently with the i3, so that is gonna stay in place for a while. I might sell the 1050Ti, if anyone wants it shoot me a PM and an offer. happy to ship worldwide.

this is linus testing one out he found on AliExpress. I am not too scared, actually more curious to see if the 5 gig 1060 chinese one is at least close/comparable to a full on 6 gig version.

and as far as my specific upgrade question about the CPU, my MoBo (MSI Mortar Arctic B150M) supports Skylake processors, so I narrowed it down to either the i5-6600K or i7 6700K.

That is fake, it is no 1060, can't remember what it was really, but it is not a 1060.

B150M might not allow overclocking, check that first, but I think it was higher end models like H and Z that allowed overclocking?

i dunno, based on a ton of research, its a 1060 with a few memory chips removed, mass produced for the chinese game cafe market.
    --- Post updated ---
shows up as a 1060 in device manager and performs well in benchmarks so, fuck it, for 75 bucks ill throw it away if it sucks, I still have ol reliable 1050 lol
    --- Post updated ---
ehh, im not really even that interested in overclocking, I just like the fact that the chip is like 4.0gHz out of the box and snapped in place.

Well it is not too much and you can sell it out for 50 bucks no matter if it would be 1050Ti, I mean 1050Ti costs more than that used :D

Yeah, 4Ghz is already nice boost as it is on all cores and your 2 cores with HT is bit slower as BeamNG uses more than 2 threads so there is difference.

With 2-3 vehicles there is going to be clear difference already.

When you get CPU, you can do comparison, this CPU of mine is pretty fast for a non K model:

one question I am not sure about, on MSI's website it says my MoBo "supports Skylake processors"...does that mean I am stuck to just Skylake or could I pop a newer gen intel processor? as long as it's LGA1151? or im stuck with skylake? (not really a bad thing, I am noticing that the Skylake CPU's are still going for pretty much full retail, 300 - 400 bucks)

In theory 7th gen might work, if there is bios upgrade that supports it, but anything newer is a no go. If there is no Bios update to support 7th gen (Kaby Lake) then only Skylake is possible.

    So here's i7-8750H with dual-channel 2666MHz CL19 : 211.924 Mbeams/s (keeps stable 3.90 GHz)
    i5-4440 with dual-channel 1600MHz CL9 memory: 98.220 Mbeams/s (3.10 GHz)

Hey, I have my system as I bought it, I'm not into oc, so my specs are Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX1080 MSI (Does the graphic card does something in this test?)
    Cheers.

on my side, Beamng is kind of laggy with my air cooled Ryzen (2300mhz Ram, be quiet shadow rock 2 cooler)

Your single car (single core) result is quite a lot weaker than MouthAction's score, I wonder if it is just memory speed or if there is even something more to it, hopefully you can find some way to improve that as such is definitely lowering FPS in BeamNG.

From 170MBeams/s with an X5650@4.7GHz to 220MBeam/s with a Ryzen 2700@3.8GHz, unfortunately waiting for my water cooling bracket to come in so I can push it to 4.1-4.2GHz. Also shitty RAM timings 3000CL16.
