So I was wondering if there's any way I can move the mods folder off my c: drive without needing to move my game install.

Right, but what if after selecting the new folder, we get the message "Failed to create open dialog. Check your system".

As information, I´m using the Steam version, and already tried running the launcher with administrative provileges, with the same result.

Possibly the game is not able to create the files in that new folder.
Please check the folder location, and if it requires higher permission to be accessed.

I'm trying to move the User folder to the parent folder where the game itself is installed (on a SSD), because the default setting (Documents folder) is on HD and after the last update the game became painfully slow to load.

This entire SSD has the same level of permissions, so that shouldn't be the problem.

Tried to move the files manually and edited the startup.ini file to reflect the new path, but then, even with everything surgically correct, the game doesn't even start.

Digging a little bit further, found that the game doesn't accept anything in the UserPath variable, other than it being empty, which defaults to "My Documents\BeamNG.drive".

So ok, the game is using D:\Documents\BeamNG.drive\ in the above.
Can you try moving the userfolder using the launcher tool, so that you get that 'failed to create dialog' error, and give another ID?

Also please attach the startup.ini file located in your game's directory (not userfolder)

Sorry, I forgot to comment the default "UserPath =" in the last ID. The new one is 46208, got it just after the error.

The startup.ini file is attached (renamed to txt).

mm, did you close the launcher after you got that error?
I want to see the launcher logs, but we only store the last launcher execution logs.
In the ID above I don't see errors.

If you could try to get that error again, and then without closing the launcher, go back to the main launcher window > Support > Already in contact > Submit and drop here the ID.
This way hopefully the launcher logs will tell more.

I imagined that, and took the last ID with the launcher opened and the error on screen.

Anyway, did it again following your instructions exactly, the ID now is 46215.

    Nothing in the logs.
I believe the error you are getting is related to some system issue, or something may be blocking the tool from working.

    Let's go manually.
In the startup.ini file above, you have this:

Line 6 and 7 are not being used, because they are commented ( ; )
Line 8 is being used, and being empty the game is using the default path in Documents.
Not sure if this is on purpose.

    Try this:

Remove the 7 and 8, and un-comment line 6, and see what happens.

    If you keep having problems:
Is that a network or removable drive?

The commented lines are there because I was doing tests, and it's easier just comment/uncomment them.

Already tried lines 6 and 7 (which is technically equal to the default path), but with any of them uncommented, the game simply doesn't start. Not even the launcher runs.

    It makes no sense.

    So, let's recap:
    • If you change the userfolder from the launcher, you get an error as soon you click the 'Move User Folder' button
    • If you change from the startup.ini file, the launcher does not start
Are you using using, or trying to use a network drive for the game by chance? Or other advanced stuff like symbolic links?

    At all. That's why I'm confused :)

Exactly, I get the "Failed to create open dialog", wich of course could be a system issue, I understand that. But then...

Nothing happens, except for the cursor showing the "waiting circle" for 1/10 of a second. The game doesn't even shows in the Task Manager.

Not in this case. It´s not networked, and "W:" it's the real letter of the drive. Again, the same drive where the game itself is stored. Very weird issue.

Could you try again using this launcher.
Just after you try and have the error, send this log file 'D:\Documents\BeamNG.drive\beamng-launcher.log'
