The racing game industry is in a rough spot right now. With developers releasing racing games just about ever year as well as the performance of modern tech (computers, gaming consoles, etc) and with millions of dollars to spend you would think that racing games would be getting better, which in some areas they are, but in others they are not. It seems like ever since the release of the Xbox One and PS4 (current gen consoles) racing games have slowly turned from being fun (burnout paradise, baja edge of control, older need for speed games, etc) to being the one with the "best graphics" (forza motorsport) or designed with "loot boxes" (asphalt series) which are "cash grabs". Gone are the days in which developers actually made good games (forza 4, Colin Mcrae dirt 1-3), or when you could have/drive every car you could think of (gran turismo 2, 4, 5, 6), the days in which DLC did not really exist, or when most games were almost bug/glitch free.
Almost all of today's racing games have seemingly failed to succeed its predecessor. Take the forza series for example, in which forza motorsport 4 is widely considered to be the best in the series (which i agree) and that game was released nearly a decade ago (2011) for the Xbox 360. That game had almost everything, the cars, the tracks, the features, good online gameplay, etc. But now the forza series is considered trash. Gone are most of the good cars from forza 4 (regular 2006 Lamborghini Murcielago, 1999 Dodge Viper gts race car, BMW m3 gtr race car, Mines skyline r32 and r34,etc), while forza 7 replaces them with crappy cars (Cadillac limos, Escalade, hot wheels cars, prehistoric cars that nobody cares about, etc). There are even offroad trucks in forza 7 which would be fine except there are no offroad tracks to drive them on. even the online game mode has gotten worse with "rammers" everywhere. And what about the need or speed series with their fast and furious like storylines (need for speed payback), what happened to when need for speed actually had a decent storyline to it (nfs most wanted 2005) or when the game had more realistic physics (nearly all the old nfs games before 2000), and the gran turismo series when they did not copy the same car over and over again (gran turismo 5-6). a change needs to happen soon as most of the popular games i've listed above are either dying (or at least i think they are) or are already gone, with loyal fans requesting remakes of the older games in their beloved series. Do you agree with me, leave a comment below.

You’re seeing the past through a rose tinted glass. Games back then were good, but modern games are much more realistic and are able to simulate more complicated things better.

GT sport is great, Forza Horizon 4 is great.

I agree that the cars are worse, but the games in general are better by far.

I think NFS is shit nowadays, but that really has to do more with the company itself (EA and Ghost) becoming more greedier and less focused on making actually good games.

Forza and GT isn't that bad nowadays though, I have to be honest here.

previous forza and gran turismo games are better then the ones now, it may not seem that bad to you, but that's because you may not have played the older games like i have or any other fan has (i've been played nearly all the forza games to date except for forza 7, and i stopped play GT after 4 when my family but an xbox 360)

i'm not really saying forza horizon 4 is bad, but that most racing games in general have gotten worse in some areas, yeah racing games today are good but they are not as fun as they use to be. They just don't give off that "vibe" if you know what i mean

I played the other titles in the GT series (2 on a emulator,3,4,6 and Sport) and I find Sport okay, even if it is nothing "godlike" (if that´s the correct word to describe GT4), but it´s pretty fun for me.

Imo devs should at least try to bring back stuff from older games that made them good, and bring the "good" from those games into the new ones

Its not that GT4 is "godlike" its just that was the last game in the series before it started to fall behind the "pack"

Dude, I have literally 5 Forza games (2 Horizons, 3 Motorsports). Sure, 7 isn't as great as the others, but it's not actually bad when compared to the schlock that is current Need For Speed.

Even if some of the cars are shit, there are others that make up for it.

    Horizon 3 and 4.

And no, I never played Forza 4 as of now.

You just proved my point, you only played the bad forza motorsports (5, 6,and 7) and not the good ones (3, and 4). As for the horizon series, there not so bad but the storyline is better in the first one as is the music.

I think that Forza Horizon 2 was the best horizon game, but 4 comes close. The car list seemed more original, and the sounds were FANTASTIC. The whole game was so great since they had a smaller, more focused car list.

250 cars is the sweet spot between quality and choice.

Frankly, I think that FH4 tries to use too many cars, and end up sacrificing quality severely as a result.

Dude, it isn't bad. Again, it's really just the cars that kinda fall apart overall.

Also, you can't blame me for starting with FM5 instead of FM4, as FM5 was how I got introduced to Forza to begin with.

Yeah, I worded that wrong, I meant that the post-GT4 games are still fun to play.

I've played every Forza Motorsport game and I've played every Forza Horizon game (except 1 sadly) and a few Gran Turismo games and i have to say while no Forza Motorsport games have truly recaptured the magic of FM4, Forza Horizon 3 did a great job at it. The world seemed so open and there was new stuff to find and discover at every corner. Crazy sand dunes, forests, a city, beaches, and a nice little town and a good list of cars. That game gave me the closest experience to FM4 out of them all, I definitely put many of hours into that game, probably too many.

I'm not blaming you for starting with fm5, i'm just saying that since you have not played the good ones you can't really say that the new ones are better. You started with fm5 which is the worst in the series, fm6 was a step in the right direction, while fm7 is just 6 with more content (mostly ported from the horizon series hence the offroad vehicles without offoad tracks)

I've seen worse games than FM5.

Well, the worst racing game I ever had was definitely Payback.

    The way I see it...
Gran Turismo 6 = best GT game due to sheer car variety (and the driving on the moon bit was cool too)
Forza Motorsport 4, and 7 = best FM games

Why? What's the problem with 7 (other than the crates, which are only a minor nuisance at least for me)?

I said "that I ever owned", not in general. Also, I don't own Big Rigs anyways.
