THE STORY:

During the 1930s, various German car makers experimented with the specs needed for affordable and compact family car, fitted for developing highway network. The most popular was Familiewagen brand with its rear-mounted and rear-drive family car, which was introduced in 1938 and proven to be a commercial hit after the WWII.
But, their rival, KWD, had another innovative solution. They developer FWD car with longitudinally-mounted 910cc engine and even more streamlined cues. The car was aimed to be mass-produced around the early 1940s, but the WWII postponed all plans.
In the late 1940s, the Allies approved the production of Typ 38 in both Soviet and American occupation zones, and it was probably the only car produced in the East Germany and West Germany at the same time. Cheap production costs, monocoque external design and moderate performance for the inliner-3 based engine tended to evolve into boxy and smokey Sputnik 600 in the DDR and reliable & practical Audace 1000 and more boxy 100 family during the late 1950s and also until the later 1960s in the BRD (West Germany).
This car is based on 1938 DKW F9 prototype. Have fun! : )
