1946 Familiewagen Typ 38 / Golden Beetle
Disclaimer: This car is inspired by 1955 Golden VW Beetle, although it borrows cues from mk.1 Volkswagen (1938-1952 model). The 100.000 unit in golden paint doesn't exist in real life. It was 1955 millionth unit instead. Automation has real VW Bug body (mod in workshop) but I had to choose similar Morris Minor body because modded body is very laggy on my specs.
The Story:
The story of Typ 38 is very hazy. Official one goes back into 1938, when designer F. Forscher created truly "people's car" for developing middle-class. The demands were met - it was cheap family car for four people with max speed which could reach above 100 km/h. It's price was fixed around 900 German Marks, and in theory, could be bought with couple workers' savings. According to second story, its design and mechanics were stolen from Czechoslovak Moravia designer team leaded by H.Ledinka, which was basis for patent infrigement lawsuit in the 1960s - the Czechoslovak government sued the Familiewagen and won the case.
Although the car had to roam the roads in the 1938, the Second World War postponed all the plans. Couple of FW's were produced for German Army, but real production started in the late 1945, after Allies' administration approval, who controlled the assembly lines.
FW Typ 38 was very simple, unibody and easy handled car powered by boxer-4 families (1200cc, 1300cc and 1600cc) and was even iconic model in 1960s USA.
Also it was basis for first 1940s and 1950s Forscher coupes and convertibles. It was produced all around the world in approx. 21 million units and has reputation of timeless classic even now.
