The 1958 Toter Fisch was originally launched with the name "Alt zuverlässig" with the projection that it would become the most reliable vehicle ever made and the company behind it had aspirations of supplying these vehicles to the military over the current vendors at the time.
Unfortunately the truck was fraught with issues from cheap material in the frame to engine gaskets that blew out for no apparent reason, the vehicles tendency to drown its own motor with incorrectly portioned fluids earned it the name "Toter Fisch". After one year of production that saw a return nowhere near the cost of producing the vehicles the company creating them folded.
An estimated 7,000 were made in anticipation of the vehicles popularity according to company records but only 500 were sold in addition to gifted "test" models. No one knows where the other 6,500 trucks are but this one is here!
Fitted with the engine from a dead Volkswagen Thing this truck is a rare find in North America and is a real head turner wherever it goes. . .especially since the previous owner painted it hot pink.
