1962 Iskra Canaria 1.0

Have you heard of Iskra? I wouldn't blame you if you haven't.
So the story goes that a man by the name of Iskra Oscuro decided in the early 60's that he wanted a car with the looks of an European coupe, but with the power of an American muscle car. He took matters into his own hands, and founded Iskra. A couple years later, came the Canaria.

Fitted with an American-made Serpent V8, the 4-seater Canaria produces almost 300 horsepower and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It's comfortable and stylish, but loud and brutish. Whoever sees it will surely know your arrival by sound beforehand!

The engine was originally planned to be built in-house by Iskra, but this proved to be expensive - molds were purchased to produce V12 engines, but none were ever built. With no readily available engine, Iskra chose as previously mentioned to supply the cars with various Serpent V8 engines, which proved to be a cheap yet controversial option. The Serpent engines were reliable, but were also criticized as being "crude" and "brutal". Regardless, the use of various American engines, especially Serpent, would come to define Iskra cars.



Production stopped in mid-1970, having been produced concurrently, although slowly, alongside its successor since 1969.
