1967 Gillman Super Shrimp
Disclaimer: This car is second released rear-engine & rear-drive car, obviously based on 1960s Hillman Super Imp, but with little tweaks for sligtly more power and better handling. Enjoy! : )
The Story:
Gillman Shrimp was small, rear-engined, rear-drive car designed as a more comfy competitor for Wallston Maurice (Austin Mini), which had entered the scene in the 1959. The main aim for this car was comfort, that means it could be staffed with four people and still had enough space for all of them. Original Shrimp was powered by 875cc inliner-4 made of lightweight aluminium. Actually, it was a little bit underpowered, so the Roots-Gillman Corporation introduced the more powerful engine families - 1000cc and 1100cc inliner-fours. The latter trims were called Super Shrimp. It was actually little racer in 2.0 m wheelbase, perfect for rallying because of its unusually high compression ratio and formidable handling. In the late 1960s and early 1970s it was frequent on low-class rally tournaments and gained the good reputation.
Super Shrimp was produced until the late 1972, when it was replaced by more modern and boxy models.
