In 1956 the company D.A.P.A.S.A (Distribuidora Automóvil Peugeot Argentina S.A.), composed entirely of Argentine capital, had been formed, which would deal with the importation of automobiles. In 1957 the first 403 imported from France appeared. Due to its success, Peugeot awarded the Argentine capital company I.A.F.A. (Industriales Argentinos Manufacturers de Automobiles) a license to assemble this model in the country in 1958, and, after two years of assembly, the installation projects of an integrated production plant began. In 1958, the S.A.F.R.A.R (Sociedad de Automóvil Franco Argentinos) factory was installed in Berazategui, in the south of Greater Buenos Aires, which in the 1980s was transformed into Sevel Argentina.
