Beta 1974 Ototurk Merak M2 1.5

Anadol, the Turkish people's car

  1. acerimmer89
    1973-1982 Ototürk Merak II

    Disclaimer:
This car has stats and visual look very similar to the Otosan Anadol mk.II, the legendary Turkish car from the 1970s, although it has some differences - for instance, this is 2-door sedan, and I'm not sure if Anadol II had 2-door trim. Anadol was first mass-produced true Turkish car, after failing attempts in the early 1960s, which led to the conspiracy theories of "Big Four" US makers industrial sabotages.
So, this car is made on my own, without any requests. The requests are underway. Enjoy : )

    Known bug / glitch
    • There's one visual bug spotted - the speedometer numbers aren't visible. I'm not sure if this glitch is export-based or mod-based, because the same speedometer is clean and visible in Automation.

    The Story:
In the 1960s, the American, German and British cars were frequent on Turkish streets, so the goverment had an initiative of making the first, true Turkish car without any Western influences. Couple of prototypes were made in the 1960 and 1961, and they had ill-fate - the car never reached mass production. The original "people's car" was based on GNU Prince, the innovative German small family car which was inspiration for small Soviet people's car too.
But, in mid 1960's, government set up the "Ototurk" holding in cooperation with British Moldt branch. The English and Scottish designers were hired and first models even had British inliner-4 engines borrowed from Cortina '64 models. The car originally had only the 2-door trim with couple engine options - most frequent was Kentturk 1.3 L inliner-four of original design.
In 1973, Merak had received a facelift, and more boxy, conventional 1970s cues were introduced. Also, A2 had 4-door and pickup trims, the first had survived the production lines until 1982, and the latter until 1990.
Merak was simple, durable and easy-to-maintain model with easy handling. It was RWD, as were the most 1960s and early 1970s European models. It was popular in Turkey as an competitor to licensed Pinault 12 trims, and it's popular even now as an part of nostalgia, and some well-maintained models are even now roaming on Turkish streets.

      Author's Response
      Thanks.
Original 1970s fastback from Turkey, almost unknown outside this country & powered by Ford UK based engines. The only difference is that real-life model is 4-door. : )
