1976 GMZ Volka 24-24
Note: This Soviet muscle was made on as a result of fanbase suggestion, and I've recreated GAZ Volga M24 couple of times since the KEE engine. But, honestly, this one is the most detailed one. Enjoy. Couple of wishlist cars will be added soon.
The Story:
In the mid 1960s Soviet state-owned company GMZ (Gorky Motor Zavod) had intended to replace its premium sedan M21, which had traced its roots in the 1950s mainstream US sedans. The design was outdated both stylistically and mechanically, so the aim was to create more modern and boxy successor, to show the West that Soviet car industry can cope with the modern conventions.
Then, in 1967, first prototype of modern successor was presented for the Politburo members and the press. It was powered by the inliner-6 engine and the design cues were influenced by American and West German premium models, so much that it was coloquially nicknamed the "Soviet Benz". But the rigid tests were underway, and the car was put into the serial production 2 years later.
In the middle 1970s car was upgraded to accept most brutal Soviet-made engine, GMZ-13 (5.5L) V8, which was, according to rumors, actually licensed copy of 1950's US Portsmouth one. Even the transmission (button-operated automatic) was "borrowed" from the early 1960s Kaisler, but with some unique improvisations. The 24-24 was born. This car was considered as the only pure Soviet muscle and was produced in very small numbers, mostly as parade car or the secret police covert operations, such as chasing dissidents and their "proper treatment". This car was part of many scary urban legends and source of fear until the late 1980s. It was never exported, in contrary with "vanila" GMZ-24, which was used mostly as a taxi in some Western European countries.
Inspired by most rare GAZ Volga M24 ever, the 24-24 trim.
