1982 Magnum Touring 1.0

Like the current Magnum Touring, but more early 80s

  1. PlayKoyote24
The second generation of the Magnum Touring came to market in 1982, the V8 versions in 83.
According to Magnum, the car sits betwen a Mercedes E class and an S class, as it is quite powerful and luxurious, but smaller than an S class or the bigger Magnum models.
The car in general was meant as a car for successful businessmen, that wanted to drive themselves, therefore not a chauffeurs limousine, but wanted a more practical vehicle than a Magnum GT or a Mercedes SEC with just 2 doors.
The car is supposedly comfortable, with the exception of the two sport versions 380 cse and the 500 V8. However, most people think either of the 380cse form a famous movie chase as a sporty car or think of a 560V8 with... questionable owner.

The 300 features a 3.3l, low compression inline 6 engine with 180-190hp. When the businessman is scottish, great choise as he will use less fuel and due to the engine characteristics, it doesn't feel slow or underpowered, as the car isn't heavy and the engine really torquie.
The example here has the optional lockable rear differential, useful in the winter.

The 330hc (hc= high compression) has the same 3.3l engine, but with higher compression and etter pistons, that can handle more power. The locking diff was still optional, the car has better trim and better sound, aswell as around 220hp

The 360hc has 3.6l displacement, about 240hp and front and rear spoilers to handle the speed better, also it has the optional geared dif, the lockable was inclueded with the 360 due to its power.

The famous 380cse uses a 3.8l version of the i6 engine, but with things like higher rev limiter, sharpened camshaft and sport exhaust (for really nice sound). The car has a sportier setup (but no ABS!! and oldschool tires), about 270hp, nice sound, a 5speed manual and a geared differential. The engine is a bit weak at the bottom and needs revs, but also is really nice to rev and drive hard.

The 420V8 is the second most sold version, with a really smooth high torque, low power, low revving 4.2l V8 engine and a smooth 4speed auto, that eats torque and elan for breakfast. The car isn't sporty, with a bit less than 220hp it isn't that fast, slower than most 6 cylinder versions, but it has much much torque and feels just smooth to drive and is always strong and torquie enough. You can tell the I6 and the V8s apart at the front, where the V8s have double-headlights and different grills etc and at the rear, where the V8s have a shorter chrome strip.

The 500V8 is the second sport version, with a 330hp 5l V8 and a topspeed of 270 (official, theoreticaly over 300 if you wait long enough). it has a geared diff, a 5speed gearbox. widened fenders, just as the cse and it has a sport break system (yes, i know how to set up a sporty break system in automation. I just never did it and instead used huge breaks and let the ABS do its thing. But as this car has no abs...) It also features great sound and acceleration. Slightly different styling and well. lots of power.

The really rare 560V8 is like a 420, but with more of everything. Everything is either chromed (on the outside) or leather (on the inside). The car has nearly 300hp, lots and lots of torque and is really smooth.
You can all imagine what kind of "business" the businessman was running back in the 80s, that chose a 5.6l V8 car with everything you can imagine back then of options, an automatic so he alsways has one hand free and paid a huge huge premium just to get a 560. Because it is the biggest engine and has the best trim.
(if you didn't get it: I mean guys how run drug businesses or pimps)
