The 1984 Kato Hayai is a RWD grocery getter that eventually evolved into an incredible drift machine.
The 1977 Batta was a great success, so when the 80's rolled around, Kato decided they would build on that success by making another car, which turned out to be the Hayai. The Hayai was designed to be a generic grocery getter, but was also designed for it to easily be turned into a performance car. And boy, howdy, did that decision pan out well. The Hayai was all over drift tracks around the globe and sold like hotcakes. It was even the star in a car-based anime show, Intiale A.
Engine: 2.0L Cast Iron DOHC Carbureted 8-valve Inline 4 (90hp & 126nm)
Transmission: 4-speed Manual
Drivetrain: Front-engine, RWD, Open Diff
Weight: 1076kg / 2372lb
Top Speed: 126mph / 203kph
Body Type: Unibody 2-door Coupe
A RWD drivetrain, a surprisingly small weight, and an engine that makes just 90hp means that the car has quick, tossable steering characteristics and is pretty fun to drive.
Enjoy your 1984 Kato Hayai. New updates are likely to come soon.
