1989 Kayara-Shinjong Lungo 1.0

In the early 1920s, a Japanese brand, カヤラ・ビークル・カンパニー (Kayara Vehicles Co.) merged with a popular Chinese brand named 新宗汽車和飛機(Shinjong Cars and Planes) to become Kayara-Shinjong Cars.
Their first joint car build was the 1948 Kayara-Shinjong Panther, a 4x4 Jeep-style truck.
Unfortunately, as production costs skyrocketed in East Asia, they would not make another mass-production car until 1989.
And, as you may have guessed, the car they produced in 1989 was the Kayara-Shinjong Lungo, also known as "the world's most affordable Ferrari."* The car produced an amazing 487 horsepower, and clocked in a 0-60** time of just 4.5 seconds.
This car was so popular that by the end of 1989, Kayara-Shinjong had sold 3.5 million Lungos, and by April of 1991, a whopping 7.9 million of these so- called "East Asian Ferraris" had been bought. In 1994, Kayara-Shinjong was #1 in the Asian car manufacturers business. Sadly, despite their triumph, in 1995, Kayara-Shinjong discontinued the coffee-named car we all loved, but they are working on a revival project of the small beast that was the Lungo.
