1990-2005 Ibishu CSD 1.0

ultra lightweight and reliable Japanese supercar.

The Ibishu CSD was originally a concept car made by Ibishu to test their new suspension and engine technology. Once Ibishu released information to the public on its concept car the public begged them to release it. Ibishu was reluctant to do this as it would mean spending way more on research and development to get the car into its final production form. A group of engineers at Ibishu that handled Ibishu's racing division thought this was a great opportunity to earn Ibishu a higher brand reputation and status. The race team engineers discussed this with Ibishu's CEO and the Ibishu CSD production supercar project was initiated. The car was engineered with many high-tech materials to keep the weight down, a stiff monocoque chassis with race derived double wishbone suspension at both ends. The car was mid-engined and the engine was transversally mounted (sidways) in the engine bay. The body panels were all made of aluminium to keep weight down. The engine was a 3 litre naturally aspirated Dual Over-Head Cam (DOHC) V6 with Ibishu's new I-TEC Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Variable Valve Lift (VVL) technology, this allowed for the engine to rev all the way to 7300RPM while still retaining a smooth idle and responsiveness at low RPM. This is because the VVL changes the aggressiveness of the camshaft lobes depending on the engine speed. The engine made 270 horsepower and 300 newton meters of torque. The transmission was a 5-speed manual. As soon as the Ibishu CSD was available at dealerships in 1990, it was an instant success, outselling the Civetta Bolide by a significant margin as it was cheaper, faster and way more reliable.
