Proper Manual Transmission Shift Logic 1.08

Smooth and sensible manual shifting. New 'quick shift' feature added!

  1. motoxalex
WHAT THIS MOD DOES: This mod changes the shifting logic for manual transmissions in order to simulate proper manual transmission shifting by releasing the clutch when the engine revs are matched to the next gear. This makes for a smoother, much more satisfying shift, as well as wearing the clutch much less.

    NEW 'QUICK SHIFT' FEATURE:
I've added a new 'quick shift' feature where holding the shift button, instead of pressing, will force the shift and dump the clutch in a quarter of a second for when you really need to power through that shift as quickly as possible foregoing any care of the clutch. Most useful when under a lot of wheelspin, such as when rallying, off-roading, drifting, or drag racing.

    DOES NOT SUPPORT H-Shifters.

REQUIRED that Clutch Assistance and Throttle Assistance are turned on in Gameplay settings. Works with both Arcade and Realistic Transmission modes.

HOW TO USE: This mod works for every manual transmission in the base game, simply select the corresponding transmission in the parts selector that shows (Proper Mod). To use the 'quick shift' feature, just hold the shift button instead of pressing it.

TIPS: To shift faster, equip a lighter flywheel or a closer-geared transmission, or now just use the 'quick shift' feature.

    Original Additions:
    - Sunburst: 6-speed manual, try out the different gear ratio presets
    Will be adding more

Advanced Users: If you want this mod to work universally with all manual transmissions by default, including mod cars, follow this guide:
    1. Find this mod in your mod repo folder
    2. Unzip the file
    3. Within it, navigate to the lua\vehicle\controller\vehicleController\shiftLogic\ folder
    4. Copy the manualGearboxProper.lua file and paste it to the same place
    5. Rename the new copy to just manualGearbox.lua, such that both manualGearboxProper.lua and manualGearbox.lua are in that same folder
    6. This is important: Zip up the mod exactly as it was before i.e. opening the zip file should lead directly to three folders.
You will have to do this each time I update the mod.

I would give it 5 stars if the RPM would 'bounce' or 'jump' a little when shifting or downshifting, just like in real cars

I give five star this mod because first reason is very good and this second your PFP has Gaben

I really love this mod. I wish this was an assist the game offers. I did replace the original so the game uses your logic by default. But I do have one problem. When shifting between forward and revers gears it takes quite a bit longer than 2 seconds.

This is a really great mod, but might make more sense practically if it was somehow turned into a lua script that could be used universally, instead of selecting a separate transmission for handpicked cars.

Thank you! I actually do have that universal script that I use for myself, sadly it's not allowed on the repository though due to the rules

Glad I found this, thank you

A technical mod that works well, feels natural to use, and is easy to set up

OP says this but I would reiterate - make sure both ‘clutch assistance’ and ‘throttle assistance’ are turned on for mod to work correctly
