This MOD is not just good. It's indispensable! It frees us from the sporty but irritating Cherrier dual-clutch transmission. One request: would you also be able to get rid of the lousy DCT and CVT of the Sunburst?... Thank you.

This mod is awesome, the new torque converters you added in this mod makes automatic cars sooooo much enjoyable ! It's really nice to have a gearboxes that are way more responsive. The official DCT (and globally the whole automatic shift decision system) in this game is just stupid, it takes way too much time to reduce his agression and the gearbox shift up at way too high RPM at low throttle (ex : the vivace 160 doesn't engage 2nd gear before 3500RPM, that's ridiculous). You fixed the rpm jumps while shifting up too that were extremely unrealistic (I did a video showing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DamcREa3Hms ). You managed to improve the automatic gearboxes of the game that bothered me for years, in short your mod deserve 6 stars ! (you can be sure I'll never use official automatic gearboxes again, yours are 10 times better)

      Thanks man :P

I've spent a downright stupid amount of time messing about with transmissions I keep to myself, all based off real ones, from the two-speed used in 50's Buicks, to the 5 speed used in something like a 7th gen Civic, all the way on up to the 10L90 (all paired with real-life engine counterparts), just trying to figure out how I can essentially fool the game into making it as realistic as possible given my limited knowledge and just what the game itself offers. Really this mod is all that goofing around published and polished. A LOT of the experimentation is spent just on the torque converter, as that is by far the weakest link. The way they work is sub-optimal, to say the least.

I rated it 5 star when only the 10 speed was around, now it has the 7 speed as well..I think this should be 6 star! Truly the gearbox this car should have always had

When i step on a little accelrator pedal, i want the gear shifting to take place below 2000rpm. can you do this?

Currently in the process of making low-throttle shifts a bit more sensible. Having them high was a stop-gap while I continued to get the stiffness closer to where I wanted it.

Nice lore. This is a lot smoother than the DCT :P

But, this is a classic example where adding more gears makes the transmission worse.. it's always changing gear! Thanksfully the 7 speed is better
Furthermore the torque converter is inactive until the top gear, meaning low speed cruising (say at 30mph) is inefficient.. surprisingly not much power is lost on the i3, 5hp at 30mph cruise and 10hp at full throttle, but the diesel loses a bit more (~20hp at full throttle).

Also lowShiftUp points need to be soo much lower, eg. 1st gear's shift up should be say 900rpm (which might sound a disaster for performance but it does work well), accelerate incredibly slowly in the diesel and once you hit 2200rpm you can see the car lurch forward.. This would not happen if it changed gear earlier and slipped it's way through the gears at low throttle.

7 speed sounds sensible (and works better than 10 speed), and I will PM you a file with these changes once i have done them (by tomorrow). Together we will make the best FCV gearbox :P

Torque converter doesn't kick in until top because the way Beam.NG handles converters is absolutely horrible. Admittedly I've been meaning to tweak the diesel a bit but it's always on the back burner.

Low-power shift points, I agree, can be a bit excessive (like the i5 ), but was done when I didn't have converters done and got put on the back burner again. They likely wouldn't change all that much for the i3 since it makes absolutely no low end torque (especially before the turbo spools), but I can see other engines getting a bit of a reduction.

Bonus point: The 10 speed was made because of the i3 being weak and also for maximum zoom around a race track. It's genuinely obnoxious with anything other than the tallest final drive, but that's just part of the 10 speed charm I suppose.

Excellent! Lovely and smooth, super relaxing to drive - a very realistic implementation. I do think 10 gears is too many for a car of this type. Modern Peugeots have 8, and modern Mazdas have 6. Could you work your magic on a 6 or 8 speed gearbox for this car too?

Highly recommend this mod.Made the car feel more realistic in the new update. only one recommendation, can you maybe also make it so if car is in comfort and in manual mode it does not shift as brutal? My dads Audi a4 sline does the same, it only shifts brutal in dynamic/sport mode and shift calmly in manual if in comfort

Wonderful, yet again. I was waiting for a real automatic because the devs can’t seem to make a realistic dual clutch—like it doesn’t move forward until you gas it and that’s not realistic. But this 10 speed is great. Makes driving way more fun!
    1. PinheadLarry
      Author's Response
Yeah the dual clutch still being absolutely wonked is the entire reason behind the ETK trans and now this one. Pretty sad when a 10R80 base with some pepped up gear change speeds is a better DCT than the real DCT.
