Experimental Avalanche Climb 0.7.2

A hill to climb and a bunch of scenarios that pit you against cascading objects.

  1. HighDef
This mod comes with a small map and 7 scenarios.

    The map

A heightmap based hill for use of perpetually tumbling objects.

The scenarios task you with climbing the road and surviving the infinite stream of objects. Whether it be rocks or cars or boxes, you will be challenged.

You may need to reload the level sometimes as the physics go mad when you reset the scenarios sometimes (most times).

If you un-select competitive scenarios conditions in the gameplay options, you can pause at the start of the scenario and change vehicle.

I have plans to make another map made from the same heightmap image but using a steeper gradient. I tested a zig-zag, passing the rain of stuff kind of map using the same map as the straight hillclimb but it didn't work too well. Watch this space.

What a wonderful idea! I feel that there is room for improvement, but since I consider the mod a hair over 4 stars it seemed best to round up. ;-) I'd consider this a must-try mod for almost everyone! I'll share more of my thoughts in the discussion thread.

This is the best idea for BNG and well planned out, as usual. All but the metal boxes were very challenging and a grind. I suggest doing oil filled berrels and a giant gorilla at the top, for atmosphere. I had it working with the last version but no success with the teleport fix update.

Hi Ewanc, thanks for your review. I tried oil barrels but they didn't work out too well. I wanted to have the metal boxes in one of them so that it can be a light example for really fragile vehicles. I tried buses coming down the hill but it's not quite steep enough, I may be making a second map for this map only steeper :)

I get quite the kick out of this scenario pack. I love it! I have a suggestion... do some falling busses! That would be so neat.

That's a great idea. If it works out and I add it I will credit you for the suggestion.

Yea the bugs are issues with the core code not the mod. Still the game is still under heavy development so,eventually it should be better.

Not rated a mod in ages, but this one deserved it, so had to. It's fun, quite challenging and destructive, love it!!!

Even though my computer was running a few of the challenges at 10 fps I still had a blast, and will continue having a great time testing what cars can make it. With this system of teleporting I can see people making some cool events. Game/Simulator is getting to a very interesting stage of development!

That is not really from poor mod creation though, it is something that the core code is not designed to do yet, hence it being experimental. Once the game is more fleshed out it is likely to become something that works just fine. For now this mod allows you to still do it if you don't mind restarting sometimes.

This is a lot of fun. It runs well enough on my system, though the hill could use a little tuning so that objects don't always end up off the track, as it becomes much too easy the longer you are on the track.

Thanks for the rating. I will be doing the second and third passes on the map tomorrow (again as I lost all the work I did on it last week), so watch out for the update. I wish we could get our race mods working again. I tried to convert your Figure-8 over to the 'Asphalt Derby' AI code but got the same issue as I am with my DDSC mod. Still waiting to hear back from the devs again. Fingers crossed. Peace :)
