CAL FIRE / SLO County Fire Skins 1.4

The County of San Luis Obispo (SLO) spans 100 miles of coastline along Central California and covers a total of over 3,600 square miles. This sparsely populated county is protected by San Luis Obispo County Fire, which is operated and staffed by CAL FIRE personnel under contract with the county. The benefits to this system are numerous, as it provides for unified command and efficient communication between county and state departments. The County of San Luis Obispo contains dunes, rocky cliffs, and grassy embankments to the west; contrasting with dense forests and rolling hills stretching towards the California Central Valley to the east.

While the skins in this pack are mainly based on by CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo County, some take inspiration from other CAL FIRE state and county departments. As an all-hazard department, SLO County Fire does a lot more than just fight fires, they also perform duties related to medical, water rescue, rope rescue, hazmat, trench rescues, fire prevention, public safety, and urban search & rescue. Eventually this pack will contain skins to represent the variety within CAL FIRE SLO County. While there is no one map that directly portray the entire County of San Luis Obispo, the wide variety of the county can be attributed to many different maps.

The County of San Luis Obispo also encompasses parts of federally protected land like Carrizo Plain National Monument, Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes National Wildlife Refuge, and Los Padres National Forest; meaning that there is interagency support provided by BLM*, USFWS, and the USFS. There are also several California State Parks and areas protected by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife within SLO County, so state officials are a common sight as well. Other operational alliances exist with local fire & police departments in cities such as Paso Robles and the City of San Luis Obispo; as well as California Highway Patrol Coastal Division, San Luis Obispo Ranger Service, SLO County Sheriff, San Luis Ambulance, Caltrans District 5, and Pacific Gas & Electric.

Since San Luis Obispo County Fire is operated by CAL FIRE, the vehicles are numbered similar to California state fire vehicles, where the county identifier preceding the vehicle identifier. In this case, Utility 3462 comes from SLO County (State Identifier 3400), and Station 62. Vehicles that are often not operated outside county borders will only display the vehicle identifier, such as with the Type 1 Fire Engine E62 and Type 1 Ambulance M30.

This pack contains skins from CAL FIRE SLO Station 62, Station 30, and Station 22. Each of these stations will contain three different vehicles by the time the pack is complete, and are inspired by both real and lore friendly locations / vehicles.

* While National Monuments are usually managed by the National Park Service, some are managed either solely or jointly by the Bureau of Land Management.
