Calvinator 1901 to 1920 1.0

Before Royal, there was Calvinator

  1. CNCharger
In 1879, Two brothers, John and Marcus Calvinator, founded the Calvinator Brothers Locomotive Manufacturing Company, or CBLMC. They built the fastest steam trains the world has seen prior to the 20th century. However, in 1886, John read that there was a new invention all the way in Europe. It was the automobile by Karl Benz, going under the name of the Karl Benz Motorwagon. John and Marcus realized that there was potential in the automobile. It was a motorized vehicle that didn't need a rail, giving its operator the freedom to go where ever they wish. But the vehicle was expensive to build, and would cost a fortune to even the wealthy. But in 1888, CBLMC was sold to TransGasmea for $350,000, worth almost $10 million today.

The Calvinator Brothers then created a factory in Dearton, Michelin, Gasmea in 1889, and began hiring in 1890. For the next 10 years, they would research, design and experiment with different automobile parts. In 1901, a man by the name of Robert Killrob came up to the Calvinator Brothers. He just started purchased a plot of land for a large scale motor factory 2 years ago after selling his first motor company, the Robert Killrob Company, to Lucas Gavril, who renamed it to the Gavril Motor Company. Now he is looking for someone to build him a car that he can mass produce. He chose Calvinator because he recently heard about their Win at Lauraville.

In 1901, the Calvinator Brothers sell a new car they had just built to various race teams. They hired a driver for their own team that can test drive vehicles before Race Day. Caroline Thomas was an actress and stunt driver in Bearville, Costaoeste, Gasmea during the Silent Film era. The 20 year old actress was fired because she was too expensive for film, primarily for her driving skill. But the Calvinator Brothers needed a driver to test their cars, make sure they were ready for the track. On May 2nd, 1901, the 5th annual Gasmean Racing Season started with a 100 lap race at Lauraville Beach, Soleada, Gasmea. Caroline won first place, with all podium and remaining of the first 15 positions being 1901 Calvinator Ones.

Killrob's proposal was that the Calvinator Brothers would still operate their Commission based Car Manufacturing, but will build engines for Killrob, for 35% stake in his new company. The Calvinator Brothers bargained for 45%, and got 43%. The New Killrob Motor Company was then created in 1903.

In 1909, however, one year after creating the engine for the Killrob Model 20 (as well as the rest of the vehicle), Killrob was failing to pay for the engines, and they were stockpiling in the back. In fact, he was failing to pay out dividends, since 1906. Thinking that Mr. Killrob was running into some financial issues, The Brothers and Ms. Thomas go to the Killrob Production Plant to renegotiate their deal. However, upon arriving, there was a race car just outside the plant. The Brothers walk up to it and see its not a Calvinator One, its a Killrob. And it aint Calvinator Powered.

The three then see Mr. Killrob and 2 other guys walking out, looking as if they had a good day. Mr. Killrob then sees the brothers, and cracks a swear word under his breath. These were the last 3 he wanted to be seen by. It was clear Killrob was in blatant violation of contract. Days alter, the Calvinator Brothers design and build a new race car after hearing that the Killrob Model 75 was named so because it could reach 75 mph. Also, the vehicle had better handling than the Calvinator One.

The 1901 Calvinator One had a 64 BHP Engine bringing the vehicle to a speed of 65 mph, but unless you were on a straight away, the vehicle had to be brought down to 20 mph. The vehicle had a street gear limited at 20 mph, and a racing gear that brought it to 65 mph (arcade transmission won't automatically shift into 2nd gear, but it will still go from 0 if you leave it in second). The 1910 Calvinator Two on the other hand could make a turn at 45 mph, and had a top speed over 85 mph. Plus being it was wider, the wheels didn't come flying off when you braked too fast or made a sharp turn at high speeds. And it had a 3 gear transmission rather than 2.

Also in 1910, The Brothers teamed up with Jordan Null, Owner of the Failing and Now Bankrupt Null Motors. They needed a vehicle they can mass produce and sell to the masses, and Null had the means. Null motors was founded in 1907, and while the 1909 Model 2 series and 1908 Model 4 series cars sold, they didn't sell well. They were slow, topping out at 12 mph, while the better selling Killrob Model 20 had a top speed of 24 mph. And in 1910, Killrob began using the assembly line to build vehicles, bringing the price of a Model 20 down from $550 per car to just $200. The Model 2 series and 4 series both cost $450 and $750 respectively to build, leaving a purchasing price of atleast $1000 for the 2 and $1500 for the 4. And they were hand built. But handbuilt cars are only good if they are luxury or if they are fast, and the 2 and 4 were neither.

In 1912, however, the Null Motor Company began selling more powerful and faster cars. The most popular of them was the Null Model 4 series 4460, or Null Model 4460. It was powered by a Calvinator Inline 4 cranking out 60 BHP and could go 55 mph. Not fast today, but was fast for the road in 1912. The vehicle came with a street gear limited to 25 mph, and a travel gear going all the way to 55. (This vehicle won't go if left in second).

In 1916, the Killrob Motor Company had caught up to Calvinator with the Model 90, a race car capable of 95 mph. While Calvinator won the 1916 season, they knew Killrob was going to pull some wins real soon, and they couldn't permit that. The Brothers then come up with an idea. They would design the most outlandish race car at the time. They had two prototypes being worked on. One had an inline 6, and the other a V12. The design was meant to be aerodynamic. The result was a Tear drop shaped car called the 1917 Calvinator Three. The V12 prototype was tested first, but the vehicle had way too much wheel spin that couldn't be fixed. Caroline said the vehicle was too dangerous for the track, and suggested that the inline 6 version be used instead. The V12 Vehicle did manage a 188 mph top speed run, but the vehicle was too dangerous to drive. The inline 6 variant, though, could go 150. This vehicle had no wheel spin, but had to slow down for the turns. Since the Calvinator Two, thicker tires were being used as well, which helped give the vehicle stability at such high speeds.

However, the vehicle wasn't deemed ready till 1918. On May 2nd, 1918, the racing season began in Lauraville. But in the second half of the race, the Calvinator Three Caroline was driving spun out, and hit a boulder that was by the track. Caroline was found 3 ft from the vehicle. She survived the incident, but the crash became infamous. A very popular theory about the crash that has some backing to it was that during a pit stop in the later half of the race, a Killrob Employee was caught in Caroline's racing pit making a part swap. While the part about the employee being in the wrong place was indeed true, the theory part was that he swapped out some of the steel screws with tin ones while the tires were being replaced before being caught. An investigation showed the screws were indeed not the screws that the other Calvinator teams driving the Three had. But the damage had been done. The teams that were still using Calvinator Threes either swapped to the older Twos or walked off the track. Calvinator lost the season.

In 1919, Calvinator had zero teams to race with. While Null Motors Sales got hurt by this, they were still selling strong. In 1920, both of the Calvinator Brothers die in a car crash with a train. Ironically, it was a CBLMC Model 1881, the first train engine they ever built. Though theory has it that Robert Killrob may have hired a hitman to take them out and park a Null Model 4460T with their bodies on the track. 2 bullets were indeed found, but the case went cold. Caroline had mostly recovered, and was chosen by Jordan Null to be head of the new La Playa Performance division. They would build performance versions of not just cars from Null, but also the brand brought in by their new owners, the Royal Motor Company, which was really founded when Jeff Wilson bought Null Motors and renamed it, and started the Royal Motors brand.

Jeff Wilson was a former Manager of Gavril Motors for the newer but short lived Tiger brand. He left after feeling under appreciated by the Owner William "Billy" Gavril, who was previously fired as CEO for frivolous purchasing. He left and in 1920 purchased the again failing Null Motors brand and the almost Defunt Calvinator Brand. Calvinator goes temporarily defunct in 1929 at the beginning of the Great Depression, and La Playa is shut down in 1930. Null is still around till 1940, before being turned into Royal Motors Military Vehicles or RMMV or Rummvee. In 1920, Royal is the first company to use model years that are one year ahead of manufacturing year, and introduce the 1920 Royal Motors Modular Vehicle Platform, simply known as the Miara Platform, and uses it for all vehicles made by Royal Motors, and is kept updated till 1970.

I had waaaayyy too much fun testing this mod.

A nice mod but you should word on the engines of your cars: they break down few seconds after starting and we can't change the color of the cars.

must have been a recent update. Both the Two and the 4460 shouldn't have any engine troubles. The One would have been sorta era accurate as all those race cars were prone to fail catastrophically in the 1900's, and the Three was an experiment gone wrong. I am going to probably redo all of my mods (including this one) when I get a new system.
