Calvinator S1 Sedan 1.0

When Calvinator Came Back

  1. CNCharger
In 1973, Calvinator closed its doors so it can redo its factories because of the oil crisis, and Gasmea's ban on leaded fuel. Royal Motors's primary brand, Royal, was still producing and selling cars, like the new FSR, because the cars Royal made were running primarily unleaded fuel since 1970.

In 1975, All Calvinator Factories nationwide were finally retooled for the production of new cars and unleaded engines. Early 1976, the 1976 Calvinator S1 Sedan came out. It was powered by a V6 cranking out over 240 BHP, and had a top speed of 136 mph. Wasn't the fastest Calvinator ever built, but it was faster then most cars on the road. In mid 1976, the Model Year 1977 Calvinator S1 Sedan SS rolled out with a V8, cranking out 370+ BHP and had a top speed over 150 mph. Both vehicles were FWD and had 4 speed automatic transmissions, sorta the opposite of Calvinators from 1973 and before.

Both cars were champions in the new IARO EVAR Division (Economical Vehicle Auto Racing) from 1976 to 1982. EVAR limited cars to engines no bigger than 300 ci and required unleaded fuel, and vehicles be no heavier than 3500 LBs. EVAR was replaced in 2005 with the GVR division (Green Vehicle Racing), which had more serious restrictions on fuel and engine size.

The S trim of the S1 sold at $7,500 MSRP, while the SS trim sold for $9,500 MSRP.
