During the final production year of the Vette, up and coming American tuner Carriedaway began development of a secret project meant to showcase the abilities of new turbocharging technology. Two years later, in 1998, they unveiled the new testbed, the Sledgehammer. Due to numerous setbacks and overrun budgets, the Sledgehammer would never make it past the testing phase, with only 3 complete examples known to still exist today. The Sledge was built on the base model Vette, with an all new suspension, semi-slick DOT approved tires, and of course, a heart pounding twin turbo 5.7l V8. This new engine pushes out 670hp at a screaming 6500rpm, and 630lbft at 5000rpm at 14psi. Backed by a modified version of the 6 speed manual found in production Vettes, and utilizing features like lightweight 3-piece magnesium wheels and a new ducktail spoiler for added downforce, this is truly a track weapon.
