Beta Citybus Hybrid Drivetrain 1.2

A custom configuration of the City Bus that adds a "hybrid" drivetrain

To learn how the mod system works, I created this experimental new configuration for the default Citybus that adds a hybrid drivetrain similar to the hybrid buses found in larger cities like Chicago and NYC. This configuration includes a CVT transmission, boosted torque ahead of the torque converter (to simulate the electric component of the hybrid powertrain), and "regenerative braking" which slows down the vehicle when the throttle pedal is released (which, on a real hybrid bus, captures kinetic energy into the battery and reduces wear-and-tear on the air brake system).

This configuration is especially great on the "West Coast" map, as the increased torque helps when climbing the steep city inclines, and the regenerative braking likewise helps when descending these inclines.

There is a pre-made "citybus_hybrid" configuration, or you can change an existing configuration to hybrid by changing the engine option:

The hybrid system will technically work with an automatic transmission, but a CVT will yield the best results. It is default with the hybrid engine.

I love it, it is really well done - the battery depletes, recharges and overall the bus behaves like I think it should. It is also first such hybrid vehicle I have seen in BeamNG.

Awesome! Have you considered working on an hybrid T-Series? It would be great!

Haven't driven the T-series yet, but I am working on a hybrid version of the ETK 800! I'm trying a new technique for it which is taking a bit longer to get working right.

Really good! but i believe the hybrid system uses thrusters instead of powering the wheels, it would be perfect

It does use a thruster, yes. I'm working on a custom gearbox that will actually apply "electric" torque to the wheels, but the math and logic behind it is way more complex so it will take a while to get that working.

Now all we need to do is combine this mod with the Covet Bus Engine mod :D

love that turning off the engine it works fully electric!

Wow, didn't think anybody would find that feature so fast! That was actually originally by accident, but I remembered that there's a particular bus I was reading about that was designed to work like that for going through long tunnels, so I kept it in :P

This is awesome! Needs to be implemented on a smaller car as well such as the Sunburst.

I'm planning on adapting it to smaller cars too, including engine auto-stop; I have to tune the parts down from a bus to a car first though :P
