Beta Covet AWD v0.7

AWD Transfercase and special parts for the Covet

  1. JoLi
    Hi,
The new 0.26 Update didn't have the Covet MR with AWD, so I decided I'd make it myself.

    WORKS WITH 0.32!

    Progress:
[90%] logical jbeam (powertrain, ..., I feel like some parts are missing, suggestions are welcome!)
[99%] model (I'm planning on making the driveshaft go through the old exhaust tunnel in the middle) - will probably never happen (see update 0.4.2 notes)
    [75%] decorational/weight jbeam (nodes, beams, ...)

This first release (v0.1) includes NOTE: afaik, this is not packaged properly, so needs repackaging to get working (fixed in the forum release)
    - a 5-Speed Manual Transaxle
    - a Limited Slip Transfercase
    - a Limited Slip Rear Differential (new version adapted to work with Transfercase)
    - a Limited Slip Front Differential (new version adapted to work with Transfercase)

    Added in v0.2:
    - better default parts
    - more matching Final Drives

    Added in v0.3:
    - a 5-Speed Sequential Transaxle
    - a 6-Speed Sequential Transaxle
    - Open, Welded, standard Limited Slip Differentials Front and Rear
    - 4WD Transfercase with High/Low and disconnectable Front and Rear shafts

    Added in v0.4:
    - everything from previous updates now available for the front-engine variant!

    Changed in v0.4.1:
    - Fixed Hood not opening when Front Differential is used

    Changed in v0.4.2:
    - Removed Beams and Flexbodys from Custom Front Halfshafts*

    Changed in v0.4.3:
    - Cleaned up jbeam for Rear Engine Front Differentials and removed their nodes (forgot some stuff in the last update, now all diffs should work as intended)

    Added/Changed in v0.5:
    - Added Models for the Front Engine Layout:
    • Transfercase (thanks @barabash)
    • Front Left Halfshaft (thanks @barabash)
    • Driveshaft (shortened by me, model provided by @barabash
    • Exhaust (edited by me to fit the Rear suspension and Drivetrain, model by @barabash)
    • Rear Differential (taken from the 200bx, moved)
    • Rear Halfshafts (taken from the 200bx, edited to fit the moved Differential)
    • Fueltank (taken from the 200bx, heavily modified to fit the Covet without too much clipping)
    - Redid most of the Parts for the Front Engine Layout to make the Models make sense etc.
    - Added Config: Rally AWD JDM (Rally Config w/ AWD and JDM Parts)

    Changed in v0.5.1:
    - Removed Rear Halfshafts for Front Engine Layout as a Part as they're not needed and just did some weird stuff to the Front Halfshafs
    - Maybe (hopefully) fixed the Rear Halfshafts sticking through the trunk floor
    - Fixed some stuff with the Mesh of the Rear Differential, deformation should now be WAYYYY better

    Changed in v0.6:
    - Fixed weird Rear Halfshafts
    - Fixed Driveshaft
    - Changed Driveshaft to Prop, now rotates at proper RPM
    - (MR Layout) Fixed Front Diff Node scratching on the Ground

    Changed in v0.7:
    - Added Models for MR Layout Rear part of Drivetrain
    - Added 6-Speed Manual Transmission to both Layouts
    - Fixed Rear Right Halfshaft Deformation
    - Fixed MR Layout front Drivetrain Models

    * they caused issues because there is no transmission in the MR config in the front where they could attach to

    SUGGESTIONS VERY WELCOME!

thank you for reviewing it again!
If you have any problems in the future it would be much appreciated if you could write them in the Discussion thread instead of a review, then multiple responses from everyone are possible.

      anyways, glad you like it!

Mod is still awesome, but i came across a problem :
Until now, i was using this mod on the mid engine covet, but i wanted to make a front engine config with parts from the cbz mod to add cool stuff, and it turns out when i put any of all three trans, either the front or rear diff glitches and goes meters away from the car, and i have to idea how to fix it.
If anybody has ever gotten this, please help

I edited the Mesh to try to fix some problems with it. Will hopefully be fixed in the next update.

So, Meshes and especially props are a bit weird to work with. You change the file -> something changes. You change the file again -> change is not applied?????
To try to resolve such an issue I edited the Mesh to have the Halfshafts way out back, thinking with that I'll definitely see if the game applied the new file. I think I changed it back before releasing, but apparently something weird happened: I changed the file back -> my game applies the change. I try it on a different installation, with cleared cache etc., normal rear halfshafts.
Anybody else tries it: Halfshafts are f*cked from when I tried fixing them...

If this sounds confusing, trust me, it is...
jbeam is really nice, but sometimes working with flexbodies (let's not even talk about props) is a real pain...

      Sorry for the rant.
As written above, will (hopefully, if I don't encounter more weird stuff) be fixed in the next update.
When will this update come? - soon™️

yes, it is a known problem, I did this to test stuff with flexbodies.
For some reason it ended up in the release...
I have been gone for a week, will probably fix it soon ™️

Mod is awesome i really like having awd to a covet.
But, even if it's not the point of the mod, it would be cool to have cut fenders and quarter panels, to really have more of an offroad covet mod., as well as some kind of cool little roof rack with possibility to add the offroad aux lights that are already in the game (to make you have less 3d to do and less texturing and things that go with creating new parts).

Now of course, all this modding depends on your modding skills, because i know that this is a lot of work.
If you want, you can tell me if this would be possible or not.

      Thanks for the review!
Now, I just did another Mod (I put the Gavril TCX Engine into the Scout), and for that I modeled a Transmission. That was when I realized how bad my skills with blender (or in general with modelling stuff) are.
Maybe, if I find the time, I will think about it.
I really like doing JBeam stuff, and, I'd say I got pretty good at it (of course there are a lot of modders with just unbelievable skill in that regard), so I think I'll more likely do other mods where I don't have to do as much modelling.

If you want to do the Modelling/Texturing part though, I'd be more than glad to work that into the Mod (or another one)!

Excellent, but one thing I did notice is that the front halfshafts, especially the left one for whatever reason, tend to break super easily.

      thanks for the review!

I've not had any issues with the halfshafts breaking thoug, maybe you can explain further in the thread?
