Dalia Nano 1.0

A neat little town car, bearing resemblance to the Fiat 500 and early Minis

The Dalia Nano took the Italian countryside by storm in 1960. Many poor families could not afford the cars that were seen roving about the streets, but a simple vineyard worker by the name of Vincente Dalia changed that forever.

Dalia established his automotive business in 1958, and had produced only one car through 1958 to 1959 which did not sell well. After many months of head scratching, Dalias's underpaid and overworked designers came up with the Nano, a small RWD family commuter with a tiny 70 cubic inch S4.

The car rolled into the showroom in a blaze of glory, thousands upon thousands of orders were made before the car even went into production, and despite its sub 5,000 dollar price tag it made Dalia and his crew millionaires and sustained the company for decades to come before its eventual demise in 1974.

Although the vineyard worker's name did not live forever, it did prove that bigger cars were not always better than little commuters such as the Nano.
