Beta Improved Dual Clutch Transmissions 3.0

Provide smooth yet fast shifting

  1. Majniak

Have you ever wondered how would dual clutch transmission in beamng feel, if it was done the proper way?..... Well, now you can

    Changes:

    1. Creeping

Gearbox slightly engages clutch when it´s
idling and in "D" or "R".

    2. Downshift logic

Old logic was pretty simple but unreliable:
    1. gearbox decide to shift
    2. clutches dissengage
    3. ecu make revmatch, which is the same in every downshift
    (M.throttle = 0.5)
    4. gearbox shifts (engine output often isn´t the same as target, making
    the shift inaccurate)

    That brings these problems:
    - downshifts are inconsistent, because gearbox needs different
revmatch based on engine’s current output
    - when coming to stop without throttle, engine uses same revmatch as
with throttle, which results in jerky movement when coming to a stop

Fixed with 2 different downshift logics:
    - Downshift with throttle input
    1. gearbox decide to shift
    2. Throttle input stays the same and primary clutch smoothly
dissengages so the revs naturally gets to target value.
    4. when engine output is same as target, secondary clutch engages
    and gearbox shifts.

    - Downshift without throttle input
    1. Primary clutch dissengages along with the secondary clutch which
    slowly engages the desired gear.
    4. when engine output is same as target, secondary clutch fully
    engages and gearbox shifts.

    3. Upshift logic

    - Upshift with throttle input
    1. gearbox decide to shift
    2. Throttle input is cut in half.
    3. Primary clutch dissengages along with secondary clutch which
smoothly engages to desired gear (speed is determined based
    on throttle input.
    4. when engine output is same as target, secondary clutch fully
    engages and gearbox shifts.

    - Upshift without throttle input
    1. gearbox decide to shift
    2. Both clutches dissengages and revs falls
    4. when engine output is same as target, secondary clutch fully
    engages and gearbox shifts.

It behaves very well like a regular automatic transmission, but I just noticed that the gear shifts are no longer as smooth as a DCT should be. When changing gears, there should be little delay or slippage. and also I noticed when shifting to the next gear the throttle is released 20 doesn't need to be made like this which makes it not real and eliminates the dct it should be.

Hi. I´m not really sure I understand your concerns about the transmission. The smoothness is the same as before. Only thing that should be different is speed. When you are not launching from 1st gear, there should absalutely not be any slippage when upshifting, that would only reduce efficency of the shift. Instead there is small cutoff of the throttle so the revs can faster reach the target and thus can shift to higher quicker yet smoothly. Also I make all the changes based on my experience driving either the 6 speed DSG with wet clutches and 7 speed DSG with dry clutches.

Very nice. It's really nice to drive.
Meaby you can add back option to REV up with brake and gas pedal ?

The shifts are indeed smoother and better handled, but I think somewhere along the line the logic that controls when to upshift might have been broken. In it's current state it seems as though it immediately tries to shift towards the highest gear it can as soon as the throttle is lifted off, not accounting for driving aggression as either the stock DCTs or default0.0player's do.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. The transmissions are tuned based on their irl behavior and most of them are always trying to keep the highest geer because of consumption and emissions. But I see what you mean. The aggression going down could be slower so that the upshifts wouldn´t be as quick. I am now a few hours away from finishing the next update, so I will look into it.

Fantastic, flawless, even better than default0.0player's DCTs. I have no idea if this is realistic but at least it feels like, devs should take notes

Thank you, glad you like it. :) All changes were made based of my experience driving VW Sharan with 6 speed DSG gearbox.
