In the1970's KMK Automotive launched the sister car to the Catalina Mk1, The Mk2 was marketed as a sport coupe and was this time sold across the world due to being acquired by a wealthy business woman who wanted a car she could could daily and take to the track. It only sold 600 units in the first 10 years before they ceased production in 1983. In total, 1789 cars were never sold. The remaining units that never sold were sent away to be scrapped, some scrapyards did so, others sold them for cheap.
As the years rolled on, the surviving cars could be found at car meets, in barns or in fields. Australian collectors in the early 2000's discovered these relics and started buying them and restoring them.
