After dissolution of USSR, all car manufracturers struggled to survive.
AZLK (aka Moskvich) was among them. The factory decided to survive with the model 2142, which was released in 1993. The base car was sedan.
By 1999, situation became critical, the factory was near it's fate (cars production was temporarily ceased from mid-1997 to late 1998, and restarted just before Russian 1998 economical collapse). AZLK decided to release new modification of 2142, so-called 2142-SO "Duet", because it was 2-door with 2 seats. The car was orientiered for young men, who don't have family and summer house yet. But due to no money left, only 15 cars were made. The interior and technical details are the same as base model. Engine was from Renault, 2.0 L.
Production stopped in November 2001, when AZLK cars production finally ceased forever. In 2010, the company was formally dissolved, ending it's 80-year history.
