With EPA regulations and the Fuel Crisis choking the American v8, its understandable that people may think the muscle car era is long gone. However that shiny light at the end of the tunnel for the past few years has been the bad boy itself, the Phoniex Trans Atlantic. And for 1979 the SE trim is back, if only for one last model year, as Phoniex's main owner's stopped production of the T/A's most legendary engine at the end of the 78' model year. Thankfully, Phoniex new ahead of time and hoarded as many of these engines as they could to make sure the 79' newly face lifted car can be shown off with a bang. As a result, under that long black hood since Phoniex's Legendary 400 cubic inch 6.6L ohv v8 is back under the hood for one last time, still making power despite those pesky emissions control systems. Torque is 329 lbs/ft (four more than the realife Tran Am made) and while Phoniex is still rating the beast at 220 Horsepower, many Hotrod magazines with confirmed its true rating of 260 (true irl). And a four speed manual is standard as well as Limited Slip differential.
