The Torino TSX is an E-segment passenger car, manufactured in Argentina by Renault Argentina S.A. It was presented in 1976, succeeding the Torino GS as a complementary version of the Torino TS version and as a high-performance version. This car was a new variant presented for the hardtop coupé version of the IKA Torino model and its production meant the continuity in the assembly line of the only product originating from the disappeared Industrias Kaiser Argentina, after Renault took control of its shares. , as well as being the only product that did not have origins in the French brand, to be produced by a subsidiary of this manufacturer worldwide.
The TSX was introduced with the intention of succeeding the successful Torino GS, being presented as a high performance model. Unlike its predecessor, this Torino presented both mechanical and external modifications, since although it presented the Torino 233 impeller from its very debut (released in the last years of the GS), the use of the three carburettors was dispensed with, a philosophy that it was characteristic in the high-performance versions of the Torino Coupé. On the outside, the car received aesthetic modifications related to the front, the door opening knobs and the implementation of an external tripod located on the trunk lid, which allowed the accommodation of the spare wheel outside the trunk.2
The production of this car ended in 1979, giving way to the production of the Torino ZX, which in turn was the first and only version of the Torino Coupé to be manufactured under the coat of arms of the Renault brand.
The Torino ZX is an E-segment passenger car, manufactured in 1979 by Renault Argentina SA, a local subsidiary of the aforementioned French car manufacturer, who in 1975 had taken full control of the facilities in the town of Santa Isabel, in the Province of Córdoba, which were owned by the defunct firm Industrias Kaiser Argentina. This vehicle was the last version produced of the IKA Torino model, from which Renault had taken over the production of this model, but already baptizing it as Renault Torino. The Torino ZX was the first product manufactured by Renault that did not originate from its factories in France, much less its own tooling, so it was considered the first "non-Renault" product to bear the name of the French firm. .
The Torino ZX presented variations with respect to its previous versions, the Torino 233 engine with 6 cylinders in line and 7 banks now equipped with electronic ignition and double loin pistons that brought compression to 8.25 to 1. At the same time, it continued to be equipped with a single Carter-Ilasa double-barrel carburetor with a diameter of 36 mm. All this coupled to its 4-speed ZF gearbox and the Dana 44 differential with limited slip as standard on this model.
The Torino ZX had been presented in 1979, as a replacement for the Torino TSX and was the last version of the then Renault Torino, ending its production in 1981, with 99,792 units produced, since 1966
