Very nice map indeed, very well made and fun to drive on, there was one overpass where my tired got snagged on the wall and it got stuck, but I couldn't recreate the action so I think it was just unlucky timing (Not your fault probably, just beam being beam). The water jumps are quite fun, and the FPS is VERY good, P.S. if it runs slow for anyone, turn your lighting/shadows on a lower setting, and that's just general rule of thumb for any map... Overall, a good map with little to no bugs other than the usual Beam bugs which can't be easily fixed by a mod maker, and it's not a bad looking map either, I think i'd rate it a solid 9 out of 10 (Simply because of lack of visual content like signs, signals, and buildings, which he mentioned he'll be adding soon) SO DOWNLOAD IT!

Thanks for your constructive review! As posted, signs/traffic lights *AND* multi-lane (lane-splitting) AI support will be in the next version (AI works great now if you don't use lane-splitting option). I will be adding missions eventually, also. That being said, there's plenty of good mileage if you just drive around or want to use a highway as your own personal race track (without injuring yourself or others like you would in the real world) as the map currently stands. Again, thanks for writing in. Look for a (0.8.x game version) update to my 'Nevada Interstate' map coming in the next month if you like this(hopefully!), if all goes as planned.

An i3 sixth-generation processor is a great little cpu, that while being a power-miser is also a great performer. I wholeheartedly will say it's the best budget Beamng.drive cpu line for those not wanting to run more than two vehicles at once, or who just want good FPS chasing a vehicle around or driving solo. A GTX 745 will output respectable frames on low-to-medium detail depending on the map and other settings, without dynamic reflections (and with GDDR5, at 1080p, with GDDR3 at 720p). Knowing this, and making sure settings are appropriate, you should have quite a fun time. Thanks for taking the time to post cpu/gpu specs and giving performance feedback. This feedback helps me make more appropriate maps in the future that are both fun and run well.

A little banking goes a long way. In my first time loading the map, everywhere I drove, I could go much faster. It really does remind me of various parts of California, and is a load of fun to drive around.

It performs well enough on my computer, but your mileage may vary -
    Highly recommended.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNmd9EbTnEY Love it. The fps are not that bad. My specs are i7 920 @ 2.7GHz GTX 750ti. I get between 20 and 115 fps depending on where I'm at on the map and what I have for vehicles and settings on High or usually Normal but To me 20 fps in this game is completely playable. The only lag I really have is when I crash but other than that it's perfectly fine. Good job on the map. I love it. I love big open maps that put a strain on my PC. I also found out the Formula One Car will drive under the lakes without hydrolocking which is awesome.

I have been having so much fun on the road by the spawn, to me it is absolutely perfect for Hillclimbs and that is really cool because I've been wanting a hillclimb map or something for the new cars and this is absolutely perfect. :)

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. If you dig around on the forums you can find version 7, which refreshes the textures a bit, smooths out a few bumps, redoes some road alignments, and add some banking to some of the highway corners. It's under forums/levels/So-Cal something something... you'll find it if you look, v7 is posted in the thread on page 5.

i get 0.2 FPS and i have a very fast laptop its impossible to play
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
laptop = fast? Well that's a new one. Sure some are decent but if you want to game, buy a desktop. No one who meets the recommended specs, who's pc is in proper working order, is having issue. Don't rate it low because your PC has an issue. As an alternative, if this does not work and you are SURE you're using your PC's dedicated video, not INTEL graphics (which don't meet the specifications!), find version 7 under forums/levels/So-Cal thread. You'll find it if you look for it, it's hosted on mega.nz for now. By contrast, this version SIX is on the official mods page here, version 7 is on the forums pages. I have a two year old CPU (4790k) and a 3+ year old video board (Radeon 7850) and I can run it on high detail all the time even maxing out the 2gb video memory.

Using my maps on youtube or facebook, or wherever you want to share your videos (in public, private, or on the internet), may be done without permission. Thankyou for the compliments, and for asking anyways. This goes for all my content on this site.
This goes for everyone, no one is required to ask, but I only kindly request you send me a link to your youtube channel in the forum/discussion thread, or via private message on here, as I get a kick out of watching Beam videos, and post a link to here on your youtube page so others may get the mod, too. Enjoy the map and check out Nevada Interstate (mods section) & Tennessee USA beta too if you've got a recent machine (on the forums yet not mods section).

i have a question. what if you have a hd 5450? just wondoring for my laptop. great map!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
an HD5450 is a rather low-end card. If it had 1gb of video memory (DDR3), I doubt it still would have a chance at rendering this. Failing that, there's still the chance of going into the editor (f11, while in a window), and choosing LIGHTING from the menu bar, and using BASIC LIGHTING (give it a few seconds to refresh), and then exit out of the editor with F11.
You'd have to do this each time you run the map. You would forgo shadows, and smoothed water edges, but that's a small price for a fun game.
Also, this option doesn't save as it's a viewmode.
The CPU is much more needed by the game, so if it's a 2ghz APU or something AMD-made, it most likely won't be smooth enough to play the game (15~22fps only) and wouldn't be fun. If it's an intel (something more than an intel atom), it should be fine if it's made within the last few years.

    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
He did one, he finds them on the MODS section, and does them. I guess you could comment about it on his vids but it's very possible that it'll get drowned out in a slew of other comments. He reviewed a small chunk of this and got lost (was hysterical to me - having made this, this happened to me many times and I built it)... Thanks for the good words.

    Don't think me critical:

This map is huge and is very ambitious. I definitely have not driven it all yet :) The terrain is extremely smooth for it's size and being worked on by one man is just mindblowing! But:

The terrain is extremely hilly and the hills are very, very aggressive at times. Nowhere in California or in America would there be roads on hills having 35 degrees of slope at times, especially those that allow you to get air at just 25 MPH. (Perhaps I'm being a hypocrite because there's large hills in my Desert Highway map...)

Criticism aside, this is a good map! Keep it up!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
There's steep slopes just for fun in So-Cal Interstate map. It gives the sports car a workout. If you're looking for a recreation of a real highway, my next map has that. It's Tennessee USA terrain with a REAL road network. I will most likely be going back over So-Cal and backporting some of my texture improvements from the Tennessee map, as I spent almost a dozen hours on textures just for it. The 35 degree slopes, in a select few spots (they're probably not that steep) are for zooming up and down hills and having extra crash-power at the bottom. Normal USA interstates have at most a 5~6% grade, with legacy highways being grandfathered in with up to 8% grade (rarely higher).

This Map Is Great! You Deserve 5 stars! Btw Just A Suggestion, maybe you can have an area like where you know when you have to pay to get in and the gate opens in different areas on a highway? that would be cool for roleplaying trucker people or like pit stops and signs, if you dont like the idea its ok it just would be pretty cool!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
That might be possible with the new Script Extender, but it'd need to be a dynamic object also, from my best guess. While it'd require more features than the game has current, it's Early-Access nature only leaves the door open for more good ideas. When it's possible to add something like this within the game's AND my ability - I'll gladly do so in future maps. This map is part of my under-development Interstate map series.
--Glad you had fun here & Cheers!

    Very, very good map.
The roads are well laid out, and so, so smooth. Wonderful to drive on.

Are we going to ever see highway signs showing which exit ramps lead where? That would be so amazing.
As well, service stations would be exceptional.

Anyway, excellent work on the mod, you deserve not just five, but ALL the stars!
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
Thanks feathered friend! Much appreciated here. There was a bit of a void in Interstate maps here on the Beam forums when I started this Interstate map series. I strive to make maps that:
Are smooth, spacious and expansive - won't get quickly played out.
Plenty of space to speed, while providing enough corners and other things to challenge skilled drivers, and to break away from being boring - a design point dating back to the Autobahn.
Provide enough visual feedback without looking dated or 'too plain'. This is a very hard line to walk without being tacky and cluttered (and killing FPS and missing a large user-base), or being plain and boring.
Be close enough to the real thing that they can be used for crash-modeling by crash-reconstructive experts nationwide.
Most importantly, this map, Nevada Interstate that came before it, and Tennessee USA that comes after (it's not out yet!), are created from a large pool of user-feedback of things we like and love, whilst I avoid putting in what people don't like as best I can.
For-players-by-players. There's a little (or a lot) of something here for all!

This map is very well done and visually stunning. I especially love the off road cliff trails and the incredible amount of detail. The AI also has worked well. The only concern is occasionally I'm not impressed with the FPS.
    1. bob.blunderton
      Author's Response
As the game gets further along in development, FPS will improve on large maps. I am in talks with the devs and some of the other mappers on other things I can do to improve the FPS. I could put fog in, but that isn't fun @ 200mph :) It already has most all the textures in DDS format, and the water DOES hit the fps a little (10% if that), but there's not much else I can do. You can hit F11 to enter the editor in windowed mode, choose lighting from the menu-bar, press BASIC LIGHTING, wait 10-20 seconds for the game to return then press F11. For the remainder of the game session (or atleast this map), you will be without shadows, or advanced water features (you can still see water) and a few other non-essentials like post-fx. Boosts FPS by 50% if not cpu-limited. Glad you had fun. --Cheers
