After long, long wait in 1959 came new generation of one of the Thomas bestseller. Thomas Almaz II went into production 10 years after the premiere of first Almaz model.
Market success forced the producer to prepare a worthy successor. And they done.
First Almaz offered only one type of body with one engine. A new one was available with 3 body types and 5 types of engines from 3 other families.
Base engine family was EURO-Liner 1100 and 1300. Two others was a special one. RACE-Liner and the Blue-Box engine family developed especially for this model. But they went after small lifting in 1962.
New engines was used only in special sport variants of Almaz II.
A special feature of the car was the brilliant handling and suspension, which at that time was the best in its class. The whole model was ahead of its time.
In 1962 Almaz II recieved several corrections, mainly in the chassis. The amendments changed the car from excellent to almost brilliant in terms of driving properties. As a result, a normal road car with a smaller engine (RTS) became almost as fast as the Trako II model
Sport variants as RT, RTS, RLC and RCC were the first models to use the achievements of the THR (Thomas Headquarter of Research) department. They were exclusive or limited models. RLC and RCC they were variants only dedicated to competitive sports. RLC was a Rally car, which was used in ERC (European Rally Championship), without a great success but it was first step. RCC was intended for track racing. It was more successful.
