The FR-24 was a compact 2+2 sports coupe that was meant to compete with the Mustang, the Camaro, Challenger, and other sporty coupes. It was powered by an all aluminum 150 horsepower 2.4 liter twin camshaft 4 cylinder. It had mechanical fuel injection, unusual at this price point. It was an excellent engine that made the same power as its larger engined competition. The Mustang, even with its optional 289 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 speed transmission, was no quicker in the quarter mile. It had a 5 speed manual transmission, something its American competition wouldn't have for a decade. It had 4 wheel double wishbone independent suspension, whereas the American cars had solid rear axles. The small, light engine and fully independent suspension made it the best handling car in its class. It came standard with alloy wheels, gas shocks, and 4 wheel disc brakes. It weighed just 2,100 lbs, over 700 lbs lighter than the lightest mustang. Better still, it got an incredible 24 miles per gallon, and ran on regular gas.
